All challenges aside, I am still sponsoring this years Pixelween competition. Huzzah! You have a much longer time to compete and complete this contest than the weekly challenges. So there's no excuses.

The Contest:

Pixel a scene depicting a menacing alien and/or robot. Think retro science fiction movies such as:
The Almighty Rules:
  • Size: 250x140 (horizontal x vertical)
  • animation allowed
  • transparency allowed
  • 32 colours maximum
  • must be of a horror/scifi theme as mentioned already. We will not accept anything to do with E.T. or Alf. Do not play dumb and look for loopholes.
  • Absolutely no rips, photo traces, edits, etc.
  • Multiple submissions are allowed.
  • submissions will only be accepted beginning October 15th. This means don't submit something you doodled in 5 mins.
  • This is a vote free contest. You will not be able to vote yourself in this time. Judges will be anonymous but not able to win in the competition. This includes myself.
  • contest is open until October 29th.
The Prizes:

First Place
Second Place:
Third Place
No refunds or exchanges without proof of purchase

Have fun and good luck!

All of the examples are in Poster format.  I don't see that as a requirement, but is that preferred?  Like having a movie title and text?

And now for something completely different...

Almost all of those examples include the Robot/alien holding the maiden in their arms... very typical of those retro posters

the Forbidden  Planet was awesome, with a young Wesley Nielson and Robie the Robot.

Since when does Pxeljoint have spell check?

Edit:: Who can be judges?

Most of those examples have giant monsters holding on to beautiful women.  Most of the women are in the same pose, too.

Potentially idiotic question ... when is the final due date? Does submitting start Oct 15 and go til Halloween?

Prizes and webpage to unleashed soon (soon like in the next day or so and not like whenever hell freezes over).

We're looking froward to seeing some great stuff you guys!

Wow, those posters have been really misleading.  Not only is this challenge not a poster, it's not vertical...  So now my robot is going to be sideways.

I'll figure something out.  *sigh*

Edit:  Figured it out.

Someone already beat you to it.    Attack of the Crab Monsters

I would darken the red highlight so the white text is a tad more readable.

You might also make the girl pop out of the background more.  With color or outlines or what have you.

...and it'd be cute if those flying saucers had little crab legs or something.

iST that really is wonderful, and hilarious lol. I do think you could make a proper arm for the crab though, if you haven't planned it already. His eyes make me giggle. Nice colours too.

I understand the requirement of having a sci-fi horror film. But does it have to be straight retro, or have options like making a non-horror science fiction a.. horror? Like E.T Evil version or something; not that I was going to make something like that.

Not that I have anything to submit now, but does submitting require anything besides adding it to the gallery with an appropriate description? (it's my first Pixelween )

@Shiraku: no it doesn't have to be straight up retro, but it will definitely help you in my judging process  An evil E.T. would still be E.T. which is against the rules. C'mon and get creative!

@Frankie: dude, that is looking boss!

@MashPotato: Yes, adding it to your gallery with an appropriate description would be the best. Something along the lines of "My Pixelween submission" in the description or title would help alot.

@kendi64: An awesome start! Love the perspective of the robot but not the building in the background.

@Doomcreator0: it ends on the 29th... specifically midnight PST.

Here is my WIP.

15 colors so far (I think, I'll have to double check sometime.)

Still got a bit of work to do but I thought I would give you all a preview.

(There... MAY be animation.. depending on how lazy I am.)

Aww I hoped it would be a nerdy PJ t-shirt!
Cool prizes though, and also, you forgot "bragging rights"

edit: oh and, I have plan 9, and its awesome (to anyone reading this and like, contemplating to participate but who cant quite make up his mind)
So painfully horrible! It actually says "this movie is so bad its good" in the back! By Ed Wood, history's worst filmmaker!

It's even better.

But there's a speck of purple on the bottom pipe/tube on the left side, is that supposed to be there?

Haha, thats funny. Yes its supposed to be there, it was supposed to be a cut in the pipe that oozes out drops of purple sludge at some select times during the animation. I completely forgot to add the drops themselves! Good call, Greenraven!
