Well, I've made a start anyways. Just some lineart for one character and some colour (mainly so I can remember what is supposed to be what). This one's the warrior, obviously.

I don't really believe I'll have the time to carry this through, but the theme was just too cool for me not to give it a shot.
So, here's my WIP on the warrior. No clue on how to do the cliché spiky hair, though. Any feedback is welcome. |

Just started. Working off a drawing I did when I was 9. Changed a little to stop the birdmen being so menish. Now just birds. Working on Mage/Healer and Warrior.  Please give advice, I'd really like to finally have a piece accepted on PJ  |

Improved the mage. He is now clearly elfin. Altered the position of my warrior. Might try to give him more action. I like my thief the way he is. Will probably add a creature and work on the warrior from here on out. Any suggestions welcome. |

Update: The thief's pose is inspired from a sprite of Jinn. I'll add a mage or a pet but I also have a cool idea for a healer :( Hey admins, is it ok to make 5 or 6 characters? |

I'm not a RPG player, but I wanted to participate in this challenge :) I'm doing a gorilla warrior (WIP): Base  With accesories  I'm imagining all characters as animals. I hope that's ok. PS: As I'm not very good with palettes yet, this characters will be greyscale.

started working an a spell effect for the mage, tweaked the thief a little, gave the warrior a shield and turned his halberd back upright, because I think it looks heftier that way. I think "creature" shall be next... |

Improved the spell effect and the colors for the mage. Messed with the warrior's size. Changed the position of the thief. I have decided that my 4th character will be . . . a PACK RHINO! :D |

I decided on trying a more modern RPG myself, went with a more simplified look, might add shadows when the other 3 are done, want to make sure I don't go over the color count. Anyways, here's my Inventor so far. :P

Started my PET RHINO, positioned the guys, and changed the colors of the warrior once again. He looks very static - I may have to give him an action pose. Too bad I cant't have him riding the rhino (against the rules - must be separated by transparency). |

Changed the thief's gun to a crossbow. Anyone have an opinion on which one was better? Tough to decide... Starting to like the warrior finally, put him at the forefront and will continue to alter his shield. Elf Mage has not changed much (might simplify his spell effect in the days to come). The pack rhino is underway! |

@ Gecimen - I second matt0's comment and are you planning to add a barrel to the sniper's rifle? @ failureboy - I think the only problem with the crossbow's readability is that there is no tone to the handle. Slip a lighter brown in there and it should be a lot clearer. @ matt0 - I like what you've done although I can't tell whether it a male or female. If its a male, its dressed kind of effeminately and if its a female I might recommend an accentuated chest (EDIT: And not for perving reasons, just for readability xD). Incredibly tough competition here everyone! |

@Lathien, thanks for not giving up on my Xbow (I added brown). However I think I will most likely go with #2. @Geci, yes, dpixel just pwned your arrangement. I was gonna agree with MattO, but the staggered one looks great. And I wonder whether you still need shadows that way. Hmm, maybe they're all fine, but for some reason the syringe guy's shadow looks a little weird. Too big or something. Sorry, just a nitpick. edit: Oh, I see, you just didn't make the space between his legs transparent. nvm. |

I'm going cave man themed. I did some scooby doo sprites yesterday and I'm kinda using them as a base. Not sure what the shaggy the inventor should invent. he is holding a wheel... I reckon the optical illusion is a bad idea... happy with Daphne the magician. Fred the warrior needs something more. I might go a club. And the last one? Velma themed theif? A giant dog like scooby animal?

Hai. This is a basic version of what I was thinking for the warrior, as usual it looks better on paper xD. The sword kinda got shifted up too much, hence why hes holding the blade, I had 3 other drawings but considering how long it took to do this one, they probably won't happen in pixels. -------------

Getting close to done, I think. Thief: I like the gun, but too much junk? (yes, that's a bonsai tree among his stolen goods) Rhino: not as detailed as the others, but I don't want to ruin him with over-pixeling/dithereing/whatnot. I like his expression and posture, and I like that he's a rhino! Warrior: Might post some options for his armor color and shield position. Ideally I'd re-do his posture, but it's getting down to crunch time. Mage: Should I add another demon in his spell? Is his suit too noisy? I want to give the impression that he's wearing some kind of dark, glittering body suit. Hope that comes across. Lose the staff? @ The Cool, lol, funny comment. At least your guys have a personality. They're not without charm. @ Adam, I like your style, though with the second guy (thief?) it's hard to determine his role. I assume the lady is a healer and the old man is the mage? @ Kavvon I'm jealous of your spell effect. Also like the leaves on the...healer? |

A little bit of shading and I think it's done. Cliched but I ended up going the wheel for the caveman invention. Fire was too close to the wizard's magic. Jinkers I think my healer came out the worst. Magic healing bone and potion. I like the hair and the minikini. Fred the warrior looks pretty good with a better pose and some battle wounds... four on transparent bacground. 10 colours and less than the 200 by 200 pixel limit. Maybe they each deserve their own colour clothes and hair ...

So many great sprites so far, I don't have any hopes for placing even third. But I'll try anyway. =) @failureboy: Mage's suit reads fine for me. About the Staff, maybe lose it, or maybe just shorten it. I feel like it's a bit long in comparison to his body.  This is what I've got so far, currently 16 colors. I intended to work with outlines but I guess the resolution I chose is to small for that, or I just don't know how to make it work. Also have a hard time making things look less flat. Any Tips on that or other stuff? Honest critique is appreciated. |

Coming along slowly. Somehow I cannot get a grip on volumes.
Thanks failureboy. Yeah, the second guy is a thief. Looks like any other peasant (more a wealthy one). How silly would it be to wear something that you can recognize as an outlaws garment.
As for your art, I really like it much. Especially the warrior. I would recommend increasing the contrast on the rhino to match the other guys. Maybe turn those blueish grays on the bottom to black.

@Sergio; the mage is cool :) I don't like the idea of adding a human. Not that you can't render it good but it doesn't fit somehow. I think a small chimpanzee thief would make this look like a family. |

Love the lemur mage ;) I chose Thief and.. she have the MJ's hat.. the Warrior, the enginner and the medic. I begin a steampunk goblin for the inventor.  Good challenge by the way. |

@sergiotron: just as an aside, if you're going with an 'ape' theme, then lemur doesn't fit. chimps, bonobos, gorillas, orangutans, humans, and gibbons are apes. (the first five are the 'great apes', gibbons are 'lesser apes'). if you're just going with a general primate theme then proceed! looks great so far, but I'm dying to see it in color |

@newGuy, the first guy doesn't look like a warrior (no weapon). Perhaps that will change when you add two more characters.

@ sergiotron. I think I'm voting for you even though I've not seen your fourth figure. The detail on your monkey party take the cake. The female human pet is a great idea but I can see how it just wouldn't fit.
@ paulo: nice ones. I like the season theme and the sprites are very nice. I'm interested in the last one. Theif?
@cyangmou: all fantastic sprites that look straight out of a game. The dog is well executed but he seems a little off - maybe something a bit more fantastic. Does he breath fire or have mirror images or three heads or something?
@ new guy: nice thief although perhaps some rope on a belt or a pouch or something. for the warrios a weapon or a kung fu stance maybe? Maybe an over the top flying leap?
@ dastal: like the anime references - theif black cat? The inventor is kinda amusing (as he should be I think) but I like him.
@dpixel: great stuff

@kravvon: the detail. wow! it's seemless. I'm gonna look more closely at your stuff in the future.
@failureboy: the rhino is a nice touch.
I'll come in last but given the quality of the competition I'm happy with that.

Includes the inventor and the sketch for it's mecha, which, if the mods allow, will be my entry under the pet/creature category. |
