the tip of the fork really needs improvement and how about it showing the fork to an innocent sauce bottle or a slice of bread would do just as good. (I THINK)

thought knives are assciated with toast more than forks). It's this new

But how would the Toast get a Fork? I never use one when i eat my toast. And it is less that Knee-High so it wouldn't get to the utencils drawer. ouuOUU... or maybe he crafted it out of the the half eated piece of a fallen commrade... ouuuu that would be wild.
yeah well to the relevent comments... If you are going to use the fork i suggest makeing it more fork like. i have not encountered forks with triangular prongs on my daily travels. yet... And i am wondering what his other hand is doing. and where are the spreads that it was attacked with?
just some questions to concider (consider? conscider? oh I dont know)

I didn't do the butter yet.
But I added a new hand, some color, and fixed the fork.
Oh, I also touched up the eyes so they look more natural and not just glued on.
I need someone to help me with the shading, I just can't understand the concept of it.
I tried following a few tutorials, but I failed.

Don't save in .jpg format.
No one can really help you with shading until you show your attempt at
it. At which point it's easier to see your problem and to help you
refine the piece. Just start shading and it'll be easier on your
potential critics to identify your troubles.

Try upping contrast between normal shades and highlights so they show up more. It could use some AA too, but the shadow placement is good.

Looking good. Perhaps you could improve it by making the crust color
stand out a bit. And color the fork silver using blues (not too blue)
rather than greys.

Haha, Shark, I just spent the longest time doing the exact same thing.

I figured that he's evil toast, he might as well be dark. Then he's
also probably crunchy and so on, so dithering gives a decent texture.
Some main parts to take into consideration with highlights are the
lips, cheeks, brow and, although he doesn't have one, the nose. They
usually
protrude far enough into the light to be caught by it heavily. The brow
and upper lip stick out far in this case, so it's important to make
then get a strong highlight. Then
there's how shiny the object is. Notice the strong highlight in the
eyes makes them a lot shinier than the dithered highlights along the
brow. Shinier the object, the more contrast it has. Then there's other
stuff I'm sure you can figure out from looking at it.

I actually thought your texturing (especially the rippled sort of
effect on the crust sides) was a lot better looking. And I'm really not
that impressive at pixel art. I don't even know what I'm doing half the
time, I just eyeball everything I do. I see Ptoing and Helm talking
about unifying palettes and using colors to aa not based on hue, but
just on luminoscity and making it work and I have no idea how they even
make what they do work. I'm just a kid with some [very] loose knowledge
on lighting, color theory and character design.

seen. I am inspired by your shark everytime i see him, perhaps we
could use him in the pixeljoint game as a boss?? I have tried the
techniques of helm also, eg try aa'ing sumthing in pink with a dark
green shadow, and i just get a load of crap. Any lineart will look
good with the right pallette, and is the skill i need to perfect most,
colour choicing.

i mean, making an edit to a not aforementioned pixel and uploading it, claiming it's yours is ripping, but in this case:
-there were allready edits made
-it was obvious to see that the nosebread was meant as merely an edit

i still think you're pulling this far to heavy. i, and a lot more people do edits quite regularly, to show the creator what is wrong with eg lighting/composition/design/anatomy/etc. and we don't do this to annoy people, but to help them to further improve on the original work.
allso, where you say "regardless of how well he knows the artist." i say that it does matter how well the both people know eachother. for example, if i make art and somebody i dont know/has a bad attitude wants to use it as a base for his own worksi don't like it. But if a friend member goes to do so it's less of a bugger, since i know the people, and i trust them to not piss me off by f**king up my works and/or abuse it

souly - everyone asked about coloring, and you were right to defend a friend.

My view is that Souly's reply to the nose edit by aartuvahliks was ok, but could have done with more of an obvious jokey attitude to go with it. I think aartuvahliks took it the wrong way and so got a bit angry, so Souly retaliated. Not much more to it.

I think it was out of line for aartuvahliks to edit Blick's rendition.
Regardless if the line art was seen as up for grabs, he should have
taken the ORIGINAL outline, colored that himself and THEN added what he
wanted. Instead he just added and recolored Blick's rendition. That's
different than editing to fix problems because Blick didn't ask for
help on the face. He didn't edit to fix anything, he just edited
someone else's rendition without permission.

Regardless if the line art was seen as up for grabs, he should have

different than editing to fix problems because Blick didn't ask for
help on the face. He didn't edit to fix anything, he just edited
someone else's rendition without permission.
no no no, you are out of line ;)

I didn't read all of that, but I still have to side with Alex (aartuvahliks)
on this one. I mean, my "work" that was edited was just a color of
Souly's work in the first place, that I colored without permission
even. I never claimed it was mine and I figured people would understand
that it's not mine since... you know... I posted it in the same topic
as the original piece. The same goes for Alex.
What's with the double standard?
The answer? No one cares, leave the fighting for edible warriors. Although humans are edible... Okay, so the whole "edible" part was a bad point.
