Before this thread is either moved or closed, I'll help you out and say that most game programmers either use C/C++ or Java.

I personally use Game Maker 6.1 as well, as do several other members here, includig Pixel_Outlaw. I find it is a decent alternative to lower-level options like C(++) and works great for 2d games. However, it would be better to program your own engine from the bottom up in a different language if you are striving for a 3d game. Game Maker speeds up the development process hugely, and its own programming language has enough functions to make almost any game, with DLL support in the registered version.

I really cant see Game Maker as a programming language... its more like Flash's actionscript, its basically a script that you run on a pre compiled engine's code...

The language doesn't matter the finished result is everything, use the right tool for the job, if a game can be made in game maker and C++ with the same outcome use the language that you like best.
