Subject: Silhouet to zombie - a progress wip
Date Posted: 04 November 2006 at 11:22am
so, recently I decided to make a file containing a sh*tload of silhouetes.a sort of doodle collection with quick 1 to 2 minute doodles.
one of them was the black silhouet below that I am
now going to transform into a zombie (or at least have a good time trying to)
C+C are very much welcome as that's the point of posting a wip
Will make this post a sort of update diary
this was getting a ridiculasly long post (actual pagelength, not wordcount),
so I enveloped the wip images into an animated gif:
see individual frames along this thread with the last frame always near the end of the thread (obvious)

Doesn't look too zombie like.
He looks more like a guy with a bad back problem.
More dead, less alive.

how would you go about doing that though ... more greenish skintones perhaps ?

Show tears in the clothing, dead, gray-green skin, dark red flesh and rotting organs where the skin has fallen off, the like. Also, his left arm looks a bit off. Maybe add more bend at the elbow?

hmmm, Don't quite understand where you're going. If you are thinking of a scene where many bodies make a scene, I would think ironing out the layout first and adding the 'zombifications' later would be a wise time saving way to get there.

good ideas about zombiefication
Jal,
not sure where I'm going with this either, might do an entire piece but it's going for single Z right now so in that light I ignored my own comment and went ahead

The arm is improved a lot, but I'm having some trouble telling what the black line sticking out of him is. Good zombification here, but I'd suggest using selout or inner aa on the outlines.

Oh sweet! That second one is looking excellent! Except what's happening around his jaw? Neck is also too thin, his head feels like it would be snapping off from its own weight.
The first zombie's waist is too thin, imo. And the shading on his shirt needs work, it's bordering on pillow. I say introduce a shadow tone for it and really work the colours. Also I would change it from that clean white to dirtier bone/yellow/brown colours.
I'm looking forward to seeing this scene flesh out.
|
Posted By: Equinoxx
Date Posted: 08 November 2006 at 12:49am
see, what's going on with the jaw is that there is none ... his jaw and front of the throat are ripped out there are danglybits of flesh/skin now where his jaw used to be. might look into thickening the neck a bit at least make sure it wouldn't snap of, that'd look bizaro
good points about the shading on the 1st one. after making the 2nd and failing at a quick shading for it I decided that I need to rethink the shadingscheme in it's entire therefor yes more then likely I will touch this and redo it.

uhuh ya nice one. dig his fatter proportions will def incorporate that. Not sure about his arm-edit though, as mine is showing his elbow whereas yours is doing something impossible (try it, you can't turn your bicep outwards while having your hand backwards ...
apart from that, great edit. thx

wtf?! I just made a post and it's not here? Fine I'll write it again...
You can if you're a zombie . But yeah, true. Oh well, if I helped you then I'm happy, even if its by highlighting what you shouldn't do, hehe.
EDIT: Actually now that I look at it I remember, i interperated his hand as its fingers retreating from the viewer towards the horizon, which would put it in correct orientation with how I did the bicep...sort of...
|
Posted By: Equinoxx
Date Posted: 08 November 2006 at 4:42am
well, you did interpret it right (almost, since it's halfway between to the right and to the horizon or something to that extend), it's just the the inside of his hand (the palm) is facing upwards, therefor, the elbow points outwards.
But yeah you're edit definitely helped in multiple places.

Haha, carrying his arm, thats brilliant.
Looking somewhat tidy, but considerably jaggy on all of them, perhaps some AA?
I love the pose of the second zombie's foot, too.
The third zombie's head needs to be bigger, imo, and maybe have some intestine trailing out, that's just what I would do. His hand needs to be bigger, too.

The zombie who's doing the matrix's right leg needs work: high thigh's muscle seems to curve in, when it should be doing the contrary.

I would have worked on it a little longer, but I have a short attention span. Pay no heed to my palette, it means nothing. I took out the darkest blue as the jump from it to the next closest color was rather small. I might tinker on the edit a little more, who know. Fatty's knees are now highter, Crawler has more cranium, I tried to make better use of highlights, etc etc.

yeah good point, might do that. Don't know why (since there's no real good reason) but I'm kinda trying to limit the number of colors used.
But with the shading applied, it shouldn't be to hard to introduce a new colorcurve and apply that to either shirt or pants.

good point about the head ... I made the zombie first but REALLY wanted to do the hero in that pose. I'll see about changing the zombies head towards the back angling with the direction of the hit :)
will incorporate more color into the cloths, but will wait with that till I start building the environment, so I'll have more choise for that
Not going to make a game out of this though, for one I wouldn't know where to start, 2nd it would be lots and lots of work. This is just for fun.
