I don't think it's ready.  There's almost no shading, the face...  two dots and a line?  And the hat's colors are to dark, there's also no shading on that.  And that title is pretty weird.

Why the dithering on the hat? It's the same pattern on the whole thing, and it doesn't create any texture at all because the colours are so similar. (I didn't even see it was dithered at 1x zoom)

Ok i will make the hat like take all the dithering of and do the shading again and show you.

Not really, you need more contrast.  It doesn't look any different.  Fix the face also.

How are these.

People are going to be disinclined to help you if completely ignore their very good advice. You really need to fix the problems with this piece that have already been pointed out before moving on to animation.

Well im not so sure what contrast is (sorry im quite young) and i have change the eyes and mouth, i think it may be done now, not sure.

And look this is the first one:

Atleast its improved.

If you need more contrast, you would make the color brighter, against another color.

And you could only be at least 13, because that's the youngest you could be on PJ.

As for the picture?  Add some eyebrows, a shadow on the nose, define the shape of the head more, and the mouth needs more details.

ok im on it right now and i will show you.

You could crack a dictionary if you don't know what contrast is.

At any rate, as soda said, it is:
    • The degree of difference between tones in a television picture, photograph, or other image.

    • Enhancement of the apparent brightness or clarity of a design provided by the juxtaposition of different colors or textures.
(Definitions provided by the Oxford English Dictionary)

And juxtaposition means "stuff being next to other stuff" (definition provided by my towering intellect)

Is this ok yet?

Date Posted: 16 July 2007 at 9:41am
I'm sorry to say, but no.  Like I said, add more contrast in the hat and face.  Shape the head better, maybe make a chin.

Don't worry about submitting this to the gallery. All you need to worry about right now is improving as an artist and learning some basic pixel techniques. Assume you will never submit this to the gallery and that it's just for practice. Take your time. Learn. Grow.

OK, but you people are a tough crowd hows this i tried with the contrast not sure if its working or not and added a chin, i don't really thinki need to change the shape so i left it and added a chin, hows it look.

Heres a REALLY crappy edit I did in 4 mins, but theres the idea.

Posted By: Hatch
Date Posted: 16 July 2007 at 10:03am
The shading is still practically invisible at 1x. Make your darks DARKER and make your brights BRIGHTER. Don't be scared. Go crazy with the light/dark.

EDIT: Soda posted while I was typing this. Look at his example! See how you can actually tell there are two different shades on the skin?

ok, i was scared of getting it wrong, i guess i'm still in the newb stage of pixelling i only starting a couple weeks ago (damn i'm rubbish) i just hope i get the hang of it.

Date Posted: 16 July 2007 at 10:23am
ok, i added another shade on the hat and face and put more Contrast in i think it looks alright now, still not changing the shape, i like how it is,it looks a little like south park's cartman, but i did'nt make it look like him so here it is:

Posted By: soda
Date Posted: 16 July 2007 at 10:24am
It hasn't changed.

Date Posted: 16 July 2007 at 10:27am
It has i have changed the shading on it and colours.

Posted By: Hatch
Date Posted: 16 July 2007 at 10:29am
He's saying it has not changed perceptibly. Keep making your lights lighter and your darks darker.

Date Posted: 16 July 2007 at 10:40am
Indeed he is, but let's not let this milestone pass unnoticed: Platnium, that shading is better.

Date Posted: 16 July 2007 at 10:41am
It is.

Posted By: Platnium
Date Posted: 16 July 2007 at 10:43am
ok, i will make him less orange.

Posted By: Hatch
Date Posted: 16 July 2007 at 10:43am
Hooray! *confetti*

Now, ditch the harsh black outlines on his facial features and make his nose less bizarre.

Posted By: Platnium
Date Posted: 16 July 2007 at 10:59am

He's even more orange and there's even less contrast. And his chin is still harsh black.

Posted By: Platnium
Date Posted: 16 July 2007 at 11:14am
So if i take out the orange and change the chins form black to the other and show you you say ok you think i can submit it.

Posted By: Hatch
Date Posted: 16 July 2007 at 11:18am
No. Assuming you do all that, you should then put it in your "My Pixel Art" folder in C:\Documents\, reflect on what you've learned, start thinking about what you need to work on, and put all that thought towards your next practice piece.

Platnium, instead of focusing on making this good enough for the PJ gallery, why not focus on making it great? You'll never improve much by always going for adequate. Art is about pushing your limits, it's not something you just try to get over with as quickly as possible.

Just google some. You're not that young, there's some things you'll have to do on your own, because even though we're really excited to help you, we won't baby you.  Now move your cursor up to the address bar and type in "google.com" and press enter.

that's not a really good one.  Besides, the reason for looking it up yourself is that you see a variety, not just the first link you reach

Well when someone is using photoshop, the only advantages they should have shouldnt be anything overpowering any other drawing program, bceause that would make it non pixel art.
