Thanks for the support gang. No worries, if I ever decide to revisit the tutorial I won't desecrate the original, it's basically a historical artifact at this point. I doubt I'll get the energy to write a new one anyway, but who knows, maybe some weekend I'll take a few adderall and write a v.2.0

I think you're all right that it achieves its goal of introducing the basics (which was direly needed in those days of yore), so maybe a hypothetical sequel would get a bit more into the weeds.

Frankly if I had the energy I'd gut the entire tutorial and write it anew. The basic framing is fine but there could be a lot more nuance and caveats and better examples.

Maybe the most stylish pixel artist out there, always a joy to see new work from you.

Good eye! I tried to retain many of those early design choices that were later lost- Marowak's back spines, bipedal Ivysaur, fetal Mew, stabby Kakuna, Pikachunk's darker belly, etc.

Thanks! That's the goal, pay homage to the original sprites to create something that feels like how we remember them (since our memories tend to gloss over the messy pixelling).

I feel plenty old without you measuring my time here in centuries! Also ditto what Reo said, we're early but not the first wave, the site was already populated with great art when Ensellitis dragged me over from dA (RIP to my homie Chris).

I was just thinking the other day: who has been continually making pixel art the longest of all the humans on earth? Theoretically someone could have been making pixel art for 40 years or more, though I doubt many of the pioneers stuck with it that long. But pixel art has really taken off, so I think there are a lot of us who will stick with it for decades to come!

When I can finally play the Beatles "When I'm Sixty-four" on my birthday (knock on wood), I'll have been making pixel art for half a century!
