Level Up at Pixel Joint!

icon

Hey there good people. We've put a new member ranking system in place and given some rating benefits to members who have "leveled up".  Check out this FAQ for more details.

We've also added a Bio field for member profiles so go ahead and enter in all the tawdry events of your sinful life. Dooooo eeeeet.

Edit: Due to some lousy planning on my part you might need to log off and log back on just this one time before you'll see the new functionality.

Thanks for all the nice words about the site fellas.  It really keeps me motivated to keep building.

The best pixel hangout online. I too have made it my homepage. Informative, frustrating (mac user) and often funny. (karma points )

d-p (Level 11 Psychopath) @ 3/5/2006 04:53
Nice work on the extras, sedge, Im always pleased by more features and more power. By the way - wheres my "send to hell" button?

Monkey 'o Doom (Level 11 Psychopath) @ 3/4/2006 13:53
This site is by far the best I've seen, as far as helpful community, good design, and overall fun factor goes, and the new updates really give me an incentive to upload some of the pixels scattered across my hard drive. I visit this site at least 10x daily, and I love the frequent, interesting news updates. ROCK ON!

Impressed - damn it that was the word! Hah do I get another point now ? ;)

user
Niss (Level 4 Deputy) @ 3/4/2006 08:17
Whoa sedge! I've been impessed by pixeljoint ever since I joined but especially since this major update with the new colors. Very VERY impressive webdesign! I think all (well those few) pixel forums wanted to add those functions sooner or later (and that karma-system, can't wait for that one) and here it is.
PIXELJOINT: tomorrow today. Great! :)

Shark (Level 1 Jukyu) @ 3/4/2006 07:54
being a mac user i have not been able to comment on some great works, putting me back to  a green belt :(

now i am using slow firefox just to comment haha.

pixeljoint is my homepage, and i must say it distracts me a hell-of-a-lot., but internet wouldnt be complete without it.

Well, Sedge, you can't really blame people for loving PixelJoint.  It's such a well-designed community.  There's so much learning to be done here.  I personally love it when I get comments on my work because the input of other pixel artists means so much to me.  That's something I could never get on another site, except maybe a forum like Pixelopolis.  And the fact that PixelJoint is a gallery-based website where I can actually post some of my crap means so much.  I also visit this website multiple times each day, because I love seeing new stuff and I love giving input.  It's great too when I see the works of the real greats, because it's a goal that I can work towards.  I think I'm done rambling now...

Whoo! NEW STUFF! Me loves it.

I can't believe I didn't have one of my favorite pieces in my favorites (the aforementioned Punk Rocker walk).  *remedied*

user
sedgemonkey (Level 11 Coelacanth) @ 3/3/2006 17:54

B.O.B. :  It means so much when a talent like yourself gets something out of this site.  Ever since your sublime  Punk Rocker walk piece I've basically been hitting your gallery page up once a week just to make sure I haven't missed anything.  Your pixel walk cycles have been some of the best I've ever seen. No BS.

Akira:  Sometimes I go on "comment jags", but for the most part I'm a happy lurker too.

user
Akira (Level 5 Sniper) @ 3/3/2006 17:45
Damn. No longer can i lurk and just post art ;( oh well. I need my master assassin level back
500 comments >_<

user
The B.O.B. (Level 11 Master Assassin) @ 3/3/2006 15:39
It really doesn't matter to me what rank I am, or how many comments I post. I'm just glad there is a site I can throw my useless art at, and learn from the other pixel Gods that live here. To be honest this is my fave website, and I check it daily, so much in fact that some would call it a deadly addiction. DA is ok, but this place offers true opinions and crits about pixel art. Without this place I would still be lacking in certain areas such as dithering, and antialising. Truly a place to learn, if you let it be, and not to mention that once you get the hang of pixeling, you'll have a whole new outlook on other different genres of art...Oh that, and I really digged the icon of the masked-bush-man, tribal warrior by the news. Never seen that guy before....

user
Faktablad (Level 6 SWAT) @ 3/3/2006 14:48
Comments give you less points than pixel art.  If you want to get a higher rank, the easiest way is to post more art.

user
0xDB (Level 5 Trash) @ 3/3/2006 13:11
I second Brian the Greats recommendation to focus more on art and less on rank.

user
sedgemonkey (Level 11 Coelacanth) @ 3/3/2006 11:20

There is no bug mutantenemy. Read the FAQ carefully and you'll see there's several minimum requirements for going up levels besides just points.

user
mutantenemy (Level 5 Serial Killer) @ 3/3/2006 11:13
yet the F.A.Q. states that i am supposed to be a slasher

user
Brian the Great (Level 8 Brigadier General) @ 3/3/2006 11:11
It's just how the system works.

user
mutantenemy (Level 5 Serial Killer) @ 3/3/2006 11:09
is it some kind of bug? or is it some form of revenge by you guys?

user
mutantenemy (Level 5 Serial Killer) @ 3/3/2006 11:06
I dont like it because I'm suposed to be a slasher and I'm still a quiet one
why do you do this to me why? at least now we get something to write on

user
Brian the Great (Level 8 Brigadier General) @ 3/3/2006 11:06
I recommend mutantenemy to focus more on art and less on rank.

user
sedgemonkey (Level 11 Coelacanth) @ 3/3/2006 10:57

Indeed, can't wait to get the kudos system going for just that reason.

user
pixelblink (Level 9 Federal Agent) @ 3/3/2006 10:33

You would say that wouldn't you Mutantenemy...

I think this system will help weed out those who don't give much in the way of helpful critiques such as the above mentioned. Respect will go to those who deserve it the most.

user
mutantenemy (Level 5 Serial Killer) @ 3/3/2006 05:37
sorry i dont mean to be mean, i dont like this system one bit at allsorry

user
sedgemonkey (Level 11 Coelacanth) @ 3/3/2006 00:10

Blueberry_pie: Heh, I forgot that we already had those bios in there. I was actually suprised to see my bio done too.

Dennis Busch: Bug reports are always appreciated no matter where they are.  I was slow putting out the fires that came up tonight.

Saboteur: Leveling up currently gives you more points for rating artwork (I'm level 7 so I get 3 extra points to distribute) and it will soon give you access to "karma points" which will allow you to rate the comments of other members.

user
0xDB (Level 5 Trash) @ 3/2/2006 23:41
Doh! Maybe i should have read this news, before posting my bug reports to the chatterbox. Then i would have posted them here. I apologize for the inconvenience.

user
Saboteur (Level 4 Shichikyu) @ 3/2/2006 23:14

THAT's odd. I'd though I commented already. Apparently nottt.

I had said that!:

Awesome new function, sedge. Good call on this.

THOUGH, I disagree that rating is necessary for "leveling up", becauuuuse it doesn't yet serve a function, does it?

user
Blueberry_pie (Level 7 General Manager) @ 3/2/2006 23:02
My, seems like my bio was done already! How convenient
I'm liking this new system... that karma thingy sounds good too.
