Kim Beazley "No porn or violence on Australia's nets"

News Details

In Australia, internet service providers will be forced to block violent and pornographic material before it reaches home computers if Labor wins the next federal election.

Under the policy, announced by Opposition Leader Kim Beazley, international websites would be banned by the Australian Communications and Media Authority if they contained graphic sexual or violent material, rated R or higher.

The policy is said to protect the two-thirds of Australian households where no internet filters are in place because of a lack of technical knowledge or cost.

Kim Beazley said all households would be included in the policy unless there was a specific request for access to such material.

Considering it is unlikely that the Greens will ever hold parliamant I must admit that I would prefer Labour to win this time. I've never liked John Coward and the Liberals, and I'm really interested to see whether Labour actually has something new to offer.

thus less people voting for him

look on the bright side each time we hear about or an election draws near beazley makes himself look like more and more of a twat

People shouldn't worry too much. Even if Beazley does win the next election he'll probably just take back his word on this- you know how much politicians lie. Either way, my first vote goes for the Greens!

Wow...That's painfully stupid...Sad part is, it's about as pointless as any other "net censorship"...As in, there's always a way around it, and nine times out of ten the ones that are going to figure out how to get around it are the kids this law is designed to "protect"...All this does is encourage another generation of better, smarter computer geeks who know what it takes to get to the sex and violence...

PORN IS GOOD DAMMIT. XD

Now friends in Australia will be deprived of proper Yaoi exposure. ... if this law goes through, and that's JUST NOT RIGHT

But "the internet is for..." well, violence. Am I right? Ho ho ho. No.

how dumb. If you don't want that on your comp, don't go to it. e_e

Beazley's been acting a twat lately with his xenophobic new 'no foreign workers' policies, which are only on the back of his success with the work place agreement stuff, and now this. But I still hate the slimey toad that is our current primeminister, John Howard.
If any Australians are interested in funny politcal satire watch the Chaser's War on Everything on the ABC every Friday night.
