Bernie from Fallen Angel Industries has released his latest platformer today: Darkside Adventures.

The story: No time for vacations when you're the Imp King's Arch-Chancellor, oh no! How about you go on a quest to find the king's girlfriend's lost crown instead? And shoot stars at stuff? And also save the world? And kick some koala butt along the way?

Darkside Adventures borrows some gameplay elements from Super Mario Bros. 2 (with the whole pick-up-things-and-throw-them-away deal) and pulls it off rather nicely. It's also possible to go back to earlier levels so you can get previously unreachable bonus items, which adds a nice amount of replay value. Plus, the game has some excellent pixel art graphics similar to Bernie's other platforming effort A Game with a Kitty.

I haven't played a whole lot of the game yet but so far it's pretty good. Check eet on Bernie's website.
