Pixel Art Challenge: Tales from the Future

News Details

From Parallel Worlds challenge winner Framin comes this week's challenge, "Tales from the Future". Create the Title Screen for a cyberpunk* game.

* Something in good old "Blade Runner", "Neuromancer", "Ghost in the Shell" style.  Think dark streets, razor girls, broken dreams and so on :)

Rules:
  • Colors: 32 max. Monochromatic coloring (doesn't have to be greys) + 1 other color.*
  • Canvas Size: 320x240
  • Transparency: No
  • Animation: No

*Sample coloring style showing a monochromatic scheme with a color added. Notice that the extra color has its own ramp.

A couple entries are really good, but don't really capture the cyberpunk feel.

oh wait, it was in the news, lol.

Holy crap, I'm testing Perciv@l's new theme and this news item fits perfectly...

*...walks away quietly

Framin didn't win the Transformers challenge...

Squirrelsquid (Level 4 Mercenary) at 9/3/2007 2:55:23 PM
this is pretty interesting, I've never done any real fullscreen scene...
I might join this one if I got the time.

Yeah, inkspot/wolverine have the right idea... with the right composition your working canvas area doesn't have to be that big.

Wolverine (Level 8 Brigadier General) at 9/3/2007 9:12:03 AM
Inkspot's got a good point there.  A moody dark cyberpunk look is a perfect setting to getting away with using a lot of empty black areas for 'atmosphere' if done well.

Metaru (Level 8 Brigadier General) at 9/3/2007 8:58:14 AM
this's MY challenge.

just adding another great example of a cyberpunk game called "SNATCHER" <3

raelz (Level 1 Rookie) at 9/3/2007 8:50:05 AM
aahh nice challenge, lf to see the results of it!

inkspot (Level 4 Button Man) at 9/3/2007 7:38:55 AM
Heh, you can always leave half of the size empty, cover it up with black or something :D

soda (Level 9 Vice President) at 9/3/2007 7:12:51 AM
This sounds great, but yes, again, and again, the size is pretty big.

Skull (Level 11 CEO) at 9/3/2007 5:37:34 AM
I reckon I might give this a go.. but man, that canvas size is huge!

Stickman (Level 4 Deputy) at 9/3/2007 5:17:13 AM
I love these pallete type exercises(something I need), but that canvas size is really going to be tight on time. I also hope to join.

Gas 13 (Level 9 Federal Agent) at 9/3/2007 4:22:03 AM
Sounds like a really interesting challenge. Hope to join. I just wish the size limit wasn't that huge for more submissions.

Deltakatachre (Level 1 Depressed) at 9/3/2007 2:57:16 AM
That one is a real business.
