Pixel Art Challenge: Retro Remake

News Details

Pick a scene from from one of your favourite retro games (preferably from the 80s, think NES/C64) and remake it. If you want, you may also change the graphics style, like Bomberman Act: Zero or Emroca's brilliant rendition of the Mushroom Kingdom. Just make sure it's still the same kind of game!

Rules:
  • Canvas size needs to be the same as the resolution the original game ran on (Wikipedia is your friend!). If that's too small for you (the Game Boy's small screen comes to mind), make it twice as big.
  • Colour restriction: 32 colours max

The challenge thread will have all the challenge updates. The thread is also a great place to post your WIPs.

It's basically like remake a scene from an 80's game you know.

now, as i finally understood what this challenge is about, it seems that i won't have time to join it =/

i wish back the times when challenge topics were as simple as 'year of the boar'..

I find confusion too. I thought its a scene based on a retro game (one entry is doing this). Or remake the original using same style/colors but different sprites/tiles/BGs.

That B.O.B. challenge was way simpler : /

" Pick a scene from from one of your favourite retro games (preferably from the 80s, think NES/C64) and remake it."

I'm a little confused, as everyone in the forums seem to be making "mock-ups" of the retro remakes, but the quote clearly states "scene." Are we allowed to just make a revamped scene of the chosen game, or must it only be a remade mock-up?

   The B.o.B.: *request response*
CoMpOOter: " Super response, GET!!!"
The B.o.B.: "hah, ha ha, conclusion!!!"(*little anime children laugh in the background spontaneously and in unison*)

"Raid on Bungling bay" - i allways wanted to mock that up

VS: You don't have to be old to take an interest in older games. I like the sound of this challenge.

Yes, the colour restriction only applies to your own entry, and not the game you're basing it on.

AdamPlays (Level 6 SWAT) at 9/17/2007 11:01:57 AM
Yes I'm assuming if you use a gameboy game you don't have to restrict yourself the those colors.  In fact, it'd be best to modernize it with new colors.  And as it says, you can change the graphics style.

Assuming I have the time, I will definitely enter this.

Rakszens (Level 3 Stalker) at 9/17/2007 5:10:42 AM
Color restrictions have nothing to do with original ones, right?

jalonso (Level 11 Godfather) at 9/17/2007 5:10:06 AM

I doubt that many of local guys is old enough to have favourite 80s games...

skamocore (Level 9 Necrophiliac) at 9/17/2007 2:08:32 AM
dammit...give us a cut off date for retro...I'd say for consoles anything that's 2 gens ago (ie 5th Gen...yes Wikipedia comes to the rescue again - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_video_game_consoles_%28fifth_generation%29)

For PCs...I dunno...10 years ago as cut off time?
