Avatar Changing

icon
Ok people, I am getting VERY sick of repeating myself.  So I am making a post, and this is EVERYONE's one and only warning.

DO NOT post the link changing URL.  Period.  It is not funny, it is not a prank...  It is immature and idiotic.

This is not debatable.  If you post it, you will be suspended from Pixel Joint.

Can't the site code be patched, say, adding the current session id to the "proper" avatar change link, making impossible to the people to build a link that works, as they won't be able to specify that session id?

Just a quick 2 cents tip...

user
Adam (Level 9 Major General) @ 2/4/2008 08:35

Is it allowed to post an avatar changing link that is not misleading? Like for example direct linking Dopplegangers avatar birth pice and stating that the link will change your avatar. I'll probably not do anythying like this but would like to clear it beforehand in any case.

Excuse me for breaking the rule The B.O.B.!

*ADMIN EDIT: You heard the man, no. Please do not add to this post...*

user
The B.O.B. (Level 11 Master Assassin) @ 2/3/2008 23:35
New rule, ABSOLUTELY NO ONE SHALL ADD TO THIS NEWS POST, FROM HERE ON OUT. That includes USERS AND ADMINS.

This has already stirred enough bullshart, no need to push the envelope....

user
Metaru (Level 8 Brigadier General) @ 2/3/2008 20:44
The residents now know its not allowed. lets hope that a newcomer won't do anything stupid too.
in any case, you already said it in the news item. this wasn't not intended to open a debate.

user
Ensellitis (Level 11 Sensei) @ 2/3/2008 20:37
wtf?  who do you think you are talking to?  i know this isnt some site holding your social security number and credit card info.  i know the internet isnt safe, i have been using it since google started and you could only get books from amazon.

the whole point of this is that it is annoying, as leel said.  i cant believe i have to fucking repeat myself over and over again on this issue.  is it that hard to get into your head to not exploit the site and its flaws?

i am not posting in this news item anymore.  if you cant get this through your head, then strap on your helmet, wipe the drool from your chin.  its not that hard

user
leel (Level 5 Killer Klown) @ 2/3/2008 20:28
Metaru, the point is just that it's annoying and not funny, not that it threatens the safety of those poor and helpless online.

I've seen someone ask people to stop posting the av-changing links at least twice before, and yet people keep doing it.  Wtf?  Obviously people need to be careful what they click at all times, but that doesn't mean people should post annoying shit like that :D

user
Metaru (Level 8 Brigadier General) @ 2/3/2008 17:39
Ens, the internet is not safe by nature. mean, its pixel joint, not your Pay Pal account = security is equal to yourself reading a contract before signing it. now is the avatar change thing. then  it could the favourites link, then who know what thing it could be.
in resume: its not allowed to post any kind of malicious hyperlink. but you also have to check. at least take that second to see where the link will take you, mkay? it would not be funny that a noob posted a link to some grotesque stuff that we don't want to see.

user
Pabloavvocato (Level 1 Depressed) @ 2/3/2008 15:28
Okay, I apologize.

user
Ensellitis (Level 11 Sensei) @ 2/3/2008 14:56
if you dont want to bother reading, then dont ask questions.  why should we bother repeating ourselves if you dont want to take the 2 minutes to read through the comments.

user
Pabloavvocato (Level 1 Depressed) @ 2/3/2008 14:39
Well I obviously asked so I wouldn't have to read through fifty comments just to find the awnser I'm looking for, no need to be a dick.

user
Monkey 'o Doom (Level 11 Psychopath) @ 2/3/2008 13:35

Pablo, a few thousand years ago our friend Jalonso invented this neat thing we call 'reading'.

You should try it sometime.

user
Pabloavvocato (Level 1 Depressed) @ 2/3/2008 12:37
Avatar changing link? Wha is this and how would it work?

user
The B.O.B. (Level 11 Master Assassin) @ 2/2/2008 17:49
Is that cuz you're da' bomb?

user
cure (Level 11 Godfather) @ 2/2/2008 15:41
I'm hoping to get a bomb shelter for my birthday...

user
d-p (Level 11 Psychopath) @ 2/2/2008 15:12
Men is always trying to destroy, exploit and make fun of everything. Thats why I want a nuclear bomb for christmas.

user
greenraven (Level 2 Hired Gun) @ 2/2/2008 08:17
Yes, we are silly.

I really don't see what the big deal is. Every time I accidentally clicked on one of those stupid links, I just went back to my gallery and changed it back to my original avatar. It took like what... a whole 5 seconds. They were only links to change people's avatars, it's not like they were links to trojans or spyware. Sure it's annoying, but I really don't mind it... too much.

My two cents.

user
The B.O.B. (Level 11 Master Assassin) @ 2/2/2008 07:36
Man, are will still discussing this? Jeez Louise, you guys are a bunch of silly gooses.

user
Equilibrix (Level 5 Captain) @ 2/2/2008 06:32
There are ways how to prevent these things from happening.. using forms instead of hyperlinks for changing avatars.. but it would need to rebuild some parts of this website, so I guess it's simpler just to tell people not to post such links instead of rebuilding pj :-)

user
inkspot (Level 4 Button Man) @ 2/2/2008 05:44
Ok, time to break the virus free.

user
Ensellitis (Level 11 Sensei) @ 2/2/2008 05:25
no, a user shouldnt have to check every link they click on pj.  they should feel safe here, well, reasonably safe atleast

user
Metaru (Level 8 Brigadier General) @ 2/1/2008 22:03
When i made the same childish prank to Jal in the chatterbox, and Ens got caught, I told him the same thing that Leel said below. all i got was "I don't have to check what i'm going to click on PixelJoint".

so, in the end, from now on, there's no excuse. everyone has been warned. if anyone tries something silly, you'll face Ens's Fatality.

user
Fuzzyleaves (Level 5 Detective) @ 2/1/2008 20:56
but still the look and sound.. owell, you know I don't even know how to make that type of link...

user
Monkey 'o Doom (Level 11 Psychopath) @ 2/1/2008 20:54

If it looks silly, smells silly, and sounds silly, it's probably silly.

I don't smell anything; you're fine.

user
Fuzzyleaves (Level 5 Detective) @ 2/1/2008 20:43
:'o am I silly? (only Money 'o Doom can answer tht one)

user
leel (Level 5 Killer Klown) @ 2/1/2008 16:17
All you have to do to avoid silly traps is move your cursor over the link, and see where it leads to in the status bar.  THEN decide if you wanna click it.

Silly peoples

user
skeddles (Level 11 Psychopath) @ 2/1/2008 12:31
Amen.

user
Bisque (Level 3 Sergeant) @ 2/1/2008 10:46
silly peoples

user
Monkey 'o Doom (Level 11 Psychopath) @ 2/1/2008 10:16
That's correct.

user
Bisque (Level 3 Sergeant) @ 2/1/2008 10:04
the avatar changing links can be found on any submission page. So...If you go Here and click the link that says 'Use for Avatar' it would change your avatar to that image. I guess ppl were probably just posting the links and not telling ppl what the links did.

user
Adarias (Level 11 Special Agent) @ 2/1/2008 09:20
no worries ens, if i had to deal with everyone''s shit, i'd be a little gruff too.  but yeah i did just mean leaving posts that were responded to, or maybe a way to leave a placeholder (i realize though that this is not a forum and that you have fewer options)

user
Dentralt (Level 1 Depressed) @ 2/1/2008 09:07
Eh.. I don't know what this means.
I guess if I just stick to what's there and not change ANYTHING it doesn't tell me to change, I guess I'm a good boy? :)

user
cure (Level 11 Godfather) @ 2/1/2008 08:55
It is a link that when clicked will change your avatar.  No other site involved.

user
6dof (Level 3 Corporate Drone) @ 2/1/2008 08:48

I have no idea what you mean by "link changing URL". Is it this the thing that changes avatars, or a link to another site?

user
Squirrelsquid (Level 4 Shichikyu) @ 2/1/2008 08:25
*squirrelbrain does know all* or does it?

that explains the changes on my avatar without my doing, in the past...

user
Doomcreator0 (Level 5 Assistant Manager) @ 2/1/2008 04:48
I'm totally clueless. So I'll just leave.

user
Larwick (Level 8 Regional Boss) @ 2/1/2008 03:16
There should be featured bitmusic on the main page that you can click play on. And in times like these it would be something soooothing. Lol.

user
Akira (Level 5 Sniper) @ 1/31/2008 23:32
Marvin Gaye would be my pick. Let's get it on. Sexual healing. Ooh yeah.

user
The B.O.B. (Level 11 Master Assassin) @ 1/31/2008 22:55
Seriously guys, do I need to start the manpile, to begin the soothing, sensual manlovin', to stop all the hate and violence. Maybe some Barry Manilow songs, to start the mood. Honestly, though, I stopped posting on the site for like 5 hours, and all hell breaks loose with God knows what about links, and porn. Hope everything is fixed.

user
Ensellitis (Level 11 Sensei) @ 1/31/2008 20:43
my apologies then.

user
Hatch (Level 3 Hatchikyu) @ 1/31/2008 20:34
I assumed Adarias was talking about the posts that disappeared in this comment thread; where it looks like Larwick is talking to himself, Cure, etc. That's certainly what I was referring to. I was defending the actions of the staff, not condemning them. I'm wholly behind deleting avatar changing link posts, and deleting the immature asshole's account(s).

user
Ensellitis (Level 11 Sensei) @ 1/31/2008 20:23
no, it was other members doing it.  and i have warned many times not to do it.

the offender who got his account deleted because he created over 30 shell accounts to get higher ratings.

i did delete the comments that had avatar changing links in them, however.  tell you guys what though, the next time someone posts porn or links that fuck with your account in the chatterbox, i will make sure they dont get removed, i would hate to be disruptive by removing them.  (that was sarcasm, fyi)

user
Hatch (Level 3 Hatchikyu) @ 1/31/2008 19:47
They deleted the offending user's account. I think the disappearance of his comments is a side effect rather than a treatment.

But yeah, in general I agree.

user
Adarias (Level 11 Special Agent) @ 1/31/2008 19:38
am i the only one here who thinks it is more disruptive to destroy posts than it is to let them be?

user
AdamPlays (Level 6 SWAT) @ 1/31/2008 18:43

*zaps Metaru's avvy into a beaver*

user
Metaru (Level 8 Brigadier General) @ 1/31/2008 17:23
one must be a truly retard to make such idiotic thing...

user

We were fighting for your love, B.O.B.

user
The B.O.B. (Level 11 Master Assassin) @ 1/31/2008 16:52
Awww, wtf, you guys were throwin' fisticuffs and no one invited me? You guys are mean...

user
cure (Level 11 Godfather) @ 1/31/2008 16:17
You callin' me dumb, Lar?
YOU WANNA FIGHT ABOUT IT?

user
Larwick (Level 8 Regional Boss) @ 1/31/2008 16:03
Just to notify that i was not talking to myself, Ens, Akira or Cure just then.. haha.

user
Womped (Level 3 Hatchet Man) @ 1/31/2008 15:55
It's actually an avatar changing url. It's a hyperlink that when clicked on changes your pixeljoint avatar.
