We have finally released our first game. Helm, Lackey and I made the gfx, but let not be unknown the coder Fuzzpilz and the soundguys Ghormak and Darkstalkey for they did awesome and essential work on the game. Gogo, get the game HERE.
Alrigh... I just spent about 30 minutes playing Thrustburst, and I'm ready to start punching babies. The frustration factor of this game far outweights the fun as too many unpredictable elements compose the core gameplay. Realistic gravity and tilt-thruster controls are bad enough on their own (made worse by lack of analogue input), but combined with the constant need to accelerate and scrape against the randomly generated cave walls and dodging homing enemies and their tiny, annoyingly accurate shots just shift the experience from challenging straight into infuriating.
pb and Vertigo: A few things you might wanna take into account. Thrustburst was never meant to be a huge project. It is based on Urthwurm as a starting point. Also we made it for ourselves to enjoy and then put it out there so that others with a similar taste could enjoy it (and many do). It definately is not a game for everyone and not everyone finds the same things fun (I would for example never be found playing Sims for example). I think you get the point.
Totally agreed on that one, too! XD Its a good base, and the game could turn out cool, but this doesnt feel like the end product.

well, I don't think that if they had posted it before or long after the Dino Run post that it would have made any difference. A good game always shines through despite graphics, skill, or timing. Not to say I don't see potential in Thrustburst. I just think it needs more development (and alot more thought on the fun factor).
Totally agree with Pixelblink! You posted this on the wrong time XD

A good idea that seems poorly executed, in my opinion. It just isn't enough to keep my interest in continuing to play it over again.... unlike Dino Run... woot!
Just checked. Mirror 2 on wayofthepixel was indeed corrupted, due to my shit netconnection when I uploaded it I guess. Fixed now. Why you did not try the other 2 mirrors is a riddle to me tho.
ThroostBoorst is probably as accurate as you'll get without using the umlaut. In my nominal, American opinion. Good game from the little bit I've played, btw, Love the animations. Perhaps I'll play a bit more soon.
i can't get to play it, when i tried running it, windows xp told me i performed an illegal operation and i should go screw myself :( Anyone else has that problem?
Ü- As I recall, "oo" is the closest sound in the english language, but it's actually more of a long o with an "ew" twist. Difficult to explain in text (for me anyway).
Yeah that's true. Contra 4 for example has a bit of the same thing. It's not that long. But REALLY hard, and really unforgivable. Not really my thing.
But I didn't mention that your game does have alot of polish, and I play it sometimes even if only to drool on the graphics. And I never succeeded in finishing a game, so you deserve props for that too.
Heh, haven't played it yet but from the sounds of frustration it's like the old NES days. No saving, and very frustrating. Back then the only replayability was the fact that you HAD to replay it if you ever wanted to beat it.
Oh, and whatever WYSIWYG code they're using here, it completely kills right clicking(why???), so I can't even correct my spelling.
there are two kinds of games. ones for laugh and other for cry. the later ones tend to have an extensive replay value, while the first ones gets old afetr a few smiles. in the end, ist just a matter of tastes.
thanks for revitalizing some old memories guys! it reminds me of an old Amiga game, Dark Moon (something like that: a trivial name, tho I don't remember well), which was a clone of yet another title. whatever. the game's pretty badass, but it's hard; I can't make the counter go beyond, like, 5k score and it seems that after passing about 8k km, the gameplay thickens. . . those little tanks are busting my balls! :)
Rynen10K:
The 3 lights are the peril-o-meter, which is quite useless, but looks cool.
It looks ahead a few screens and evaluates the danger. So if there are three lights it will be more dangerous than with 2 or 1 or none, respectively. Tho it maxes out quite fast. More of a visual gimmick really.
Opacus:
Each to their own :) Tho the game is REALLY short IF you get through. In that case lives, restart points or whatever would totally defeat the point of it.
Oh, god, I can't stop playing it! It's like Helicopter+
The only thing I still don't understand is the 3 levels of lights in the top center part of the UI... I think it has something to do with overusing the thrust? Can't tell.
Love the risky method of refilling energy >:) I figured it out by accident (should've read the readme BEFORE playing the game, I suppose).
Can't really agree. I played a game that was pretty much the same gameplay wise about 2 years ago on some Flash game site. It's a fun concept. The graphics are lovelly. But it really frustrated me. The whole no checkpoint, no save point continue till you die then start over thing never appealed to me. (Wow what a cool sentence) It frustrates me, and I don't find frustration fun. And I nearly always quit games that frustrate me. I play games for fun after all.
Cheers everyone.
Surt: Yeh we know there are Joystick issues. We might fix this in an update, but until this happens (if it does) I suggest you to look at Xpadder. It's an awesome program to map the keyboard or mouse to a joypad or stick. If you use it with TB just turn off the pad support in the options.
Cheers.
This type of game isn't really my cup of tea, but the superb craftsmanship certainly makes up for it. Beautiful art, gameplay (love the thrust mechanic) and sound. Kudos to all of you talented peeps!
I viewed the screenshots first (before downloading) and wasn't wowed by them ... but was pleasantly surprised when I did download it. The motion is cool and the graphics are really nice in their non-complicated style!
The controls were a little lacking, but not horrible. However I suck at actually playing games so it might just be me.
