A lone staircase leading up to the sky or down to darkness doesn't count (but the door to your brother's hellish room does!).

Well not everyone is Judeo/Christian so hell/heaven can mean a different thing.
The title says to Heaven or Hell, but the description says "to the other world" - I take it that it isn't necessary for it to actually be heaven or hell specifically, then, so long as it includes a gateway indicative of another existence/realm beyond?
Edit: Oh, if folk are throwing in schools and naughty bits, it's obviously open for interpretation. Whee!
For some reason the first thing that popped into my head was the entrance into my High School ;)
I like it, most likely will enter. I foresee some dramatic pieces.
