Capcom believe in pixel power

After "Mega Man 9 : The Ambition's Revival" in Pure NES style on Next Gen Consoles, Capcom keep on going with "Dark Void Zero" on DSiWare.

And a "Mega Man 10" should be out this year in Japan.

What I mean by that is they've made decisions that hopefully leave spare cpu cycles and man-hours. It'd be nice if that reserve energy was put toward doing new things with the pixels. For example, I was thinking about stuff like this when I made that comment

"It doesn't do justice to these games to impose artificial limitations on the design just so they can claim a dubious distinction like retro."

Wait... wat? What are you doing in a pixel art community, then?

Actually I think this game looks quite decent all 'retro' and so on.  I like getting games that look like there were for old systems.  It's what I make myself.  I just thought Mega Man 9 wasn't any fun, and I don't expect Mega Man 10 to be either.  I wouldn't mind having a go at Dark Void Zero but it's not worth me paying out for a handheld console that has absolutely nothing else to offer me just to play that.

It looks crappy. I really don't like this business of digging up old games and releasing them exactly as they were or would've been back then. Computers were so much more limited back then and the games would've turned out very different if that were not the case. It doesn't do justice to these games to impose artificial limitations on the design just so they can claim a dubious distinction like retro.

Taht's what I love about Arne's game design docs. He sees and shows you the appeal of old titles, but he's never afraid to alter or delete the bad bits and and expand onthe orignal with modern processing power.

I'm agree with Wolverine, I've tryed "Mega Man 9" and I don't really like it. I like the fact that this is pixel, and that a big company like Capcom try to keep pixel on HD machines but I hate the fact that they try to keep only NES gameplay (too hard, not a lot of unlockable things, tiny resolution).

I mean it would be nice to make pixel game but at higher level and not only NES like. I just can't stop remembering pixel game like "Castelvania : Symphony Of The Night" or "Project X 2" on PS1 (PS1 that have almost 3D games) , just imagine if nowadays someone make a game like this on our HD machine. A plateformer or a shoot'em up in 1920x1200, imagine the boss size, the sprite details, the rooms size and with Blu Ray and DVD, the number of tileset and sprite we can stock (Example, we could see the sprite of Castlevania change with each armor we wear). I really wish I can see that one day.

I know it won't happen, because 3D take less time and people to do, but finaly when we see end credits from a GTA 4 or the time a GT 5 take to come out, I think some big company could try to make a real HD pixel game.

PS: I know that now console are powerfull with 3D but please, to all game company, stop making 3D on Nintendo DS, it's really crappy on this hardware (Example, I know lot of people like and buy the 2 last Zelda, and it surely the nicest 3D I have seen on DS because texture are pixel made), but seriously, remember Zelda Minishcap and I think these 2 last Zelda would have been better in 2D like this.

(Hope my english is not so rusty, sorry for it)

I sorta regret buying Mega Man 9.  While I like that it's all NES-like, it's not actually that fun to play.  I still love Mega Man 2 and have finished that one a lot but I just found 9 too frustrating and unrewarding and actually quite forgettable.  The soundtrack did absolutely nothing for me either.

Im glad that they went in this direction. Its annoying to see how all the game developers seem to think that 3d is necessary.

Shoot, when It comes to ambitious projects with a lot of detailed animation, 3d probably ends up being EASIER >.> So I guess thats another reason...

They should keep the pixels in theyr games. Im personally against all 3D, cus pixel art just makes games look games.

It sure would be cool if it was a true bit if its history.  Here's another article regarding it briefly http://loudmouthedgamers.com/blog/2009/12/27/a-brief-history-of-void/

Still not convincing me to buy a DSi though since the family already has their DS's

Is that backstory to the game being canceled true?

Pixel art just refuses to die!
