Create a new and original human character and show that particular character (full body not portraits) through four stages of his or her life:
Place each version of the character (full body) above the age listed on the bottom of the canvas. You may modify the template slightly, but please keep the sizes of each section the same.
Canvas Size - Use template:
Colours - Unrestricted.
Transparency - No.
Animation - No.
The challenge thread will have all the challenge updates. The thread is also a great place to post your WIPs.
It would be cool with animation, you could make the character move from section to section and age in each square.
@ultimaodin, ska used some of fool's work just to illustrate that it is possible to show an 'aged' character in full body. Not because its fool's, but probably cuz there a very few 'old' sprites of any kind in the gallery.
Sorry I had to ask because I started portraites then realised I may be restricted. *throws into recycling bin
@Lucas- I lolled but I think that would defeat the point.
@Skamocore- If your entering that I'm opting out. Noway can I pixel anything nearly as good as that.
"Can the character be dead at the age of 80?"
If a challenge were ever a find the loopholes challenge everyone would win.
Can the character be dead at the age of 80? Might lead to some interesting results.
Slightly overweight kid -> Fat dude -> Really fat dude -> An skeleton
a) maybe a little b) just wanted it to be clear (I've gone in the wrong direction before)
Also, the age progression of a (likeness) this way would be more difficult and those examples are great, but they're both hunched over. <<that's the complaining part. :p
if you used your pixels wisely you could fit all of those things in. maybe only the major face wrinkles, but i think the sagging body parts, posture, accessories, etc say "old" more so than face wrinkles.
I think I have to agree with dpixel. I also thought it was portraits because the canvas size was not so big and I thought wrinkles and stuff were the purpose of it all ^^
I think I'll go and mind my own business now...
Hmmm. Is it the whole body? Because it's not really a large enough canvas to show skin tones, wrinkles, double chins, etc. Usually the face shows most of the aging. And you know....80 is the new 60. lol
@ultimaodin, character usually means the whole body, whereas protrait is mostly head but some body may be shown. I think this week its whole body. (up to ska)
@Adarias- Sad to say I did the same...
@Skamcore- rust, water damage, moss etc... could be examples for an aging humanoid.
Anyway is just a portrate ok or do we need to show the whole character? o_O
Template really bent my head, i spent like 5 minutes bobbing in front of my monitor trying to figure out why the color was off and then realized that it was painted different tones. d'oh.
Although I wont be entering, this is a good challenge and I look forward to seeing the results.
What a co-inicidence. Was going to do a GBA mockup ofhe film 'The Time machine' :)
I may have to break my hiatus from pixeling and join in!
Because it's much clearer showing humans at different ages. We can easily spot the aging process in humans, but with other creatures - not so much. Say we're talking about a humanoid that lives for 1000s of years; then it's likely that there's no discernable difference between its appearance at 40 and its appearance at 80.
Also, you may still make it humourous (I don't think the current restrictions prevent entries from being funny...), but comedy isn't the main goal of weekly challenges.
Interesting, but why humans? D:
To make an original *human* is harder (and less funny, I think) than making another creature, such as an humanoid. Why not?
Human only. The challenge is designed to fit the lifespan of an actual human.
new orgininal human character as a humanoid creature or just a person?
It's what, 80 pixels wide? that's plenty of space for anyone. people gots to stop bitchin :P
Would love to take a whack at this but much work and travel this week :(((
