In the spirit of Autodesk Animator...

PJ Member Sirocco recently finished and publicly released Moai v1.10...

Moai an attempt to modernize and rework Autodesk Animator from years past. This carries on much of Animator's unique user interface features, but jettisons most of the animation staples in favor of expanding the pixeling tools. Most of the original drawing and ink tools have returned, along with a few fresh ideas that take advantage of non-paletted video modes.

It's awfully difficult to find an editor you absolutely love. Hopefully some of you will enjoy Moai as much as I do :)

Moai v1.10 is available HERE for Windows in zip and installer form. A Linux port is under consideration.

>> The cursor zooming...

This can be disabled in the options menu, along with many other points of interest.

You can still select a 'palette' if you so desire, but you'll have to manually create it the first time by loading an image and capturing the colors as favorites, or manually creating them. Then you can stick to opaque ink to prevent other colors from being used while drawing. I just finished up a mini-game using nothing but four colors, and used Moai to do all the spriting.

Be aware there are some minor UI bugs introduced into the current version (1.2) and I'm working on a fix, along with several minor improvements, which will probably see a release in a few days. Holidays, and whatnot, you know.

Enjoy the holidays, and best wishes to all!

Yeah, if no 8bpp (indexed palettes) then this is pretty much moot for pixelart. But I guess if you need a 24bit gfx-editor and don't have Photoshop or think Gimp is too messy; this could still be worth a look. Well, kudos for writing a gfx-prog and best of luck with its further development.

The cursor zooming with the image is terrible as you can't tell how near the cursor is to the edge of the pixel.

Panning with MMB or numpad 0 isn't working for me.

Does no 8bpp support mean no indexed or indexed-like workflow? If so .

I hope this also means we're going to see some pixelled eyecandy from you soon.
