After some feedback from you guys, we dropped the Indiegogo campaign and made our way to Kickstarter! Everything is in place, it is now up to you to help us! The kickstarter campaign is right HERE. (tiny link: http://kck.st/1hVoIMo)
As a reminder, Midora is a 2D action adventure game made entirely in pixel art by fellow artist Zhi Jiang. We are 7 people hoping to finish the game ideally within 10 months. Wether you can back us financially or not, please get the word out by sharing the campaign page everywhere on social networks and send links to everyone you know!
Midora now has a brand new website that is being frequently updated. Check it out HERE.
In case you cannot help Midora on Kickstarter, you can preorder a game copy on the Humble Store! Check out this page to preorder Midora using Paypal.
Thanks again for the support and the precious feedback! Do not hesitate to leave some here!
Midora is indeed inspired by The Minish Cap. Some tiles do look very similar, but you got to bear in mind that our tiles are much bigger than MC's. We're making a game for PC, not GBA :)
It is a shame indeed that we don't have so many backers right now, but personally I am pretty happy with the general feedback. Now all the project needs is some article on some big website like RockPaperShotgun to get some attention. With the current ratio, it would take a little under 3000 backers to reach the goal... that's entirely possible with an article on a website with hundreds of thousands visitors per day!
The level editor we are giving out to the public will be modified to only create maps for the arena mode. It does seem like a lot of money, but the arena mode will be available as a standalone game for free as well, which means. The $50,000 will also be used to improve the game. Stretch goals aren't always for one thing, we just show what will be "unlocked" but that's never the only thing.
It's a disgrace that this Kickstarter isn't doing well. -- I've tried to Kickstart twice, and they were both horrible failures...(One reached the minimum goal, only because it was set at $2,000.. it still wasn't enough to cover music costs and business fees)
Don't be upset if things don't work out for you on this campaign, the art is amazing. If you can push through it regardless of meeting your goal, there will surely be a lot of people on Steam waiting for you at the finish line.
It's obvious that the people who are extremely successful on Kickstarter just got lucky enough to get featured in the right places, or are working with a publishing company that will promote the hell out of their project.
I'm really pulling for you Mhyre and Zhi Jiang.
$50,000 to include the level editor (which is presumably already developed for the purposes of building the game) just reeks of a cash grab.
I feel as if the trees are very similar and the overall style as well but it looks awsome and fun regardless!
Pardon my misgivings, but.. Is it just me, or is the pixel style a direct copy of the Minish Cap?
Even the dark forest trees are traced/copied.
Not that this is a bad thing, no. The opposite, really. Minish Cap had amazing art. ;) It actually makes me want to play this already.
This is very sexy. I hope you get the funding you need and deserve for this game.
Not my kind of thing at all but good luck with it. I just wonder with all these thousands of kickstarter funding things whether the folks who would want to donate some money have already given as much as they can to other projects. Seems like every week there's a ton more indie devs begging for gamer's money...
Don't worry about it, sharing the word on social networks probably helps just as much! Thanks Adarias :)
As thrilled as I am to see someone working on a zelda-like game featuring a white haired female protagonist, I'm between paychecks for a while, and probably won't be able to contribute D: but you guys look well on your way! I'll share on facebook, it's about the best I can offer.
One of the most beautiful games I've ever seen, I hope everyone pitches in that can.
This may have been asked before, but what is this being made in? It looks like Flash, but it could be its own engine or something else. Just curious. The game looks great! :)
At long last a video! Hopefully it will get fully funded! :)
Such a great looking game :) Hopefully your Kickstarter will have a turn around.
