There's so much character in an old person's face. Babies all look the same. There's no baby with character. There's no interesting baby, smoking a pipe and telling everyone stories of how he or she got that scar over the left eye in Dublin on St. Patricks day.
Good point about the lack of female characters though.
It's interesting that until now only one person posted a baby portrait.... And even more interestingly, every piece (mine included) seems to be portraying a male character. I was going for a female one, but it was turning out very weird....
The baby one seems lke it has a lot of like baby blue and like colors so it shouldnt be as hard as the elderly one me thinks.
strange how the elderly get the more vibrant, lively palette and the young get the much paler and faded one.
Yes, although I didn't want to defend any point here, these were exactly my thoughts. But that made me think about how much this view has been constructed culturally, considering what I said about the lack of female characters, for example (not being an annoying radical feminist or anything, just wondering). Besides, c'mon, this is a challenge, drawing interesting babies is just like.... A bonus challenge? (I just thought about an entry featuring a Benjamin Button-like baby smoking pipes and all
)
