PXL8 is a new desktop pixel art editor that has been in closed beta for a while. Today's release (v.0.6) is officially open to everyone.

looks pretty cool, especially with all the grid stuff and all, but with all the awesome pixel art editors available for absolutely no money, i wonder how these new ones are expecting to compete with only a few little features that make them stand out?
anyways it's always good to have more choice.

It's definitly hard to stand out in this market. I try to focus more on the whole experience of using the program than individual features. Getting that right is what's going to have the user come back, not an impressive list of features. Though an impressive list of features is very helpful when you're trying to get people to try it out in the first place.
I didn't mention it in the news post, but the free trial is pretty generous. Just a 30 minute time-limit and you can restart as much as you want :)
