This is a sweet looking idea. one thing I would say though, is to have more contrast between the light sides of the grass and the dark ones. I think it would make 'em pop more.

When the rules say no transparency, does that mean the canvas has to be rectangular?

![]() I just realized a moment ago that I've never pixeled a building before. So far I'm just trying to figure out how to make things look like the things they're suppose to be, like bricks and stuff. Still has a very long ways to go. |

@ sasuke91: First you have a develop a sense of depth and perspective. Look at the world around you. How do they sit in the world in relation to the things around it? What parts of buildings and structures do you see at certain angles than what you would at others? And then how much of those parts? It takes some practice, but you'll get it after a while.
Start with one section of the scene at a time. Decide the angle of perspective you want for that, and then once you've finished, add more to the scene. Add of a feeling of distance by providing more detail to certain objects as they closer to the camera. First thing first though, you might not want to put that house on the horizon. That makes for a very difficult perspective if the landscape is flat. It'll seem hard at first, but just think about it a little more, and it'll come to you. In the meantime, you could take a look at single-point perspective and two-point perspective. That will help a lot with getting things fitting into your scene correctly. Also, if you it to be a little easier, and to keep in line with the spirit of pixelling, check isometric perspective. Mrmo Tarius is doing a version of it, although his is more Rollercoaster tycoon-like (at least that is what the landscape pieces are reminding me of ![]() Don't worry, dude. Keep practicing and you'll get it. ![]() |

I don't really like how my trees have come out, but they were a pain in the ass to make and place so I can't bring myself to try anything different.
![]() ![]() ![]() Changed the red on the tops of the trees to greys. Still hate the 'fir' trees though. Edited by Chibiwing - 08 December 2011 at 4:44am |

I have yet to start making trees.
Also, just for kicks, here's my current 'workshop' scene. ![]() NO idea if I'll get to finishing this on time, but one thing's for sure, I like that whole isometric business :) |

Update: Update x2:
![]() ![]() I still have a ton of work to do on the top quarter and I need to figure out a small tile for the lightest dirt, but it's going pretty well for something I don't usually attempt. ^_^
Edit: Added a good chunk of stuff to the top. Gotta work on the stream, gully, lightest dirt's texture, building refinement, and whatever else I notice tomorrow. Edited by Chibiwing - 10 December 2011 at 5:20am |

If the house is top view/RPG style, then the tree tops and the smoke should be too. The mountains in the BG are altogether off in perspective and, to me, a serious flaw... else, the house needs a perspective fix :/ |

You're right - I thought about the tree thing myself but I didn't really know how to fix it - should i make it so you can see the top of the tree? Any ideas about the background? I dont know what to put there at all

About the trees. Look at my blue trees; I made them look like I was seeing them in the same above angle that you're going for (I think). Act like you're seeing the tree from the same place as the house - some above, some front. As for the rest of it, work on your river (looks like you didn't use any tiling at all?), making that strange floor of the gully(?) look less like a far off plain leading to mountains, and more I don't know, but, okay, you wouldn't see the mountains/horizon from the angle you established with your house. You would just see the gully or trees or whatever.
Sorry this wasn't more coherent.
Well, I can see I once again haven't got a snowball's chance in hell of placing. ![]() Edited by Chibiwing - 12 December 2011 at 1:03am |
