RoboBOT Bio:
I've been creating pixel art for only 2 or 3 years, and I don't spend a whole lot of time on it. My interest in it grew as a spin-off interest of game making with Mark Overmar's Game Maker program. I've since developed some ability at pixel art, but I'm still quite a novice.
My other interests on the computer include game making and web design. Off the computer, I enjoying fishing, canoing, camping, hiking, reading, and spending time with my friends. I am currently an undergrad in civil engineering.

Whitepages.com tells me it's Sarajevo Fast Foods in NY. No surprises there...

Nice piece! I love the perspective, and you did well with the limited palette. Nice job!

I use Beneton Movie Gif. It's free, and you can control the delay of each frame. You can also import a batch of images, such as image1.bmp through image20.bmp or whatever, all in one go. It's pretty good for a free program.

DeProgrammer is rather lucky, I feel! All the sprites you've done for his game are great. One question, tho: The two ball shaped ships on the left have two very different light sources. Is there a reason for that?

You could have him reach back into the pumpkin, grab the lid, and hold it over his head as he goes back inside, thus replacing the lid. It would then transition nicely back to it being cut again (even tho that doesn't really make sense). Or you could just reverse frames, like Manupix said, so that he goes back in, and then the lid is raised back into place. Or, you could have him cut out the lid, and then lift it up so that he ends up wearing it like a hat. Then he just lowers back inside and the lid is replaced. Just a few ideas!

Very nicely done! the strong lighting makes it look really good. And of course everyone loves steampunk! Minor detail: The steam coming from the smaller chimney thing doesn't read as well as the other chimney steam. I feel like it should move upwards as it fades away. Nice tho, I love the hat!

Definitely make this loop! This is really great, tho! It's fun. Another idea is have a face being carved in it from the inside as well.

You make drawing faces and hair seem so easy...I'm very jealous.
You used the colors really well, nicely done. I like the dithering. I feel like dithering has been getting a bad rap around here lately, but I think it's really a matter of opinion. Well done, overall!

Wow, great animation! Looks good.
While the overall forms are great, the individual frames could use a bit of attention to detail. The fire-explosion seems like it needs some pixel-level attention. It looks good, it just needs to be tweaked and cleaned up. Actually this applies to most of the frames. The monster at the end stands out as needing some texture or something. The girl at the beginning is nice, tho, no worries there. Also, (just a suggestion), I think some suggestion of smoke would be cool. Nice job, tho!

Wow, I just noticed his teeth, very cool! I like this piece a lot. Your use of the palette is really interesting. I think the blue under the nose does work, in my opinion. That eye bothers me too, less because of the dithering and more because it lacks shape. It looks like his iris and pupil are just floating in an empty socket. Why not make it look like the other eye, which is well done in my opinion? Still, it doesn't ruin the piece for me, it looks excellent. Nice job!

Nice, creative within the pumpkin theme, I like it! I love the colors and the thick outlines. Here are a few suggestions:
You seem to have some inconsistencies in your lighting. Her thighs especially seem to be lit from different directions. Also, you've dithered the skin in some places but not others. I'd pick one and stick to it. Lastly, a matter of pure opinion, I'd add a bit of curve to her back (curve the other way). Here's a quick edit to show what I mean. Just my opinion, tho! Again, nice. I love the smoke/flames, it's very artistic.

I think you should keep going on the AA. You completely missed some lines, and overall the lines are not as smooth as they could be.  Overall the piece is beautiful, but would make more sense as a vector graphic.

Wow, you really nailed the hulk.
I agree about the greens: here's a quick color edit

What's the blue stuff on the bottom? I'd rethink that, it's not very clear. This piece is really quite good, though, nice job!

Oh I like this! It's stylish. It really would make a great T-shirt (I'd buy one). Except I feel the mountains part on the bottom doesn't really add much to the design. I can't decide which color I like best. Great job!

This looks really good. I'm not familiar with the character, but she seems pretty badass. I was really hoping when I clicked on it that she would be animated, perhaps firing that monster of a gun she's holding...

My first thought was, Wow this reminds me of the Cheshire Cat! Then I read the title, haha. Your style is so distinct, it's really great! I love how your palette is colorful but not overpowering. Also, it's great how you portray shadows and dark regions without terribly dark colors. Well done!  The paw on the left doesn't read real well to me. I love the pipe and smoke!

(I doubt this is a color reduction)

This looks great!  I like how you conveyed so much detail with so few color ramps. The mood of the piece is excellent. I agree tho that the beige/green/grey color ramp needs a bit of improvement. The back corner of the seat on the end really stands out. Great job, you should do more scenes!

So I upgraded to Firefox 3.5 recently, despite the scaling issue, because the old version was acting up. I discovered that the add-on "Image Assistant" is a great work-around to the blurring-when-scaling issue. Image Assistant adds an option in the right-click menu for opening an image in your default image viewer (for me on Vista is Windows Photo Gallery). When zooming in windows photo gallery, it doesn't blur the pixels.

Until the next version of Firefox at least, it'll do. Anyway, just thought I'd spread the word.

Haha, these are great! You should definitely animate them. The guy on the left is my favorite. The stick (bat? I dunno) that the middle guy is holding seems a bit jagged compared to the rest of the piece. Very smooth overall tho.

Wow, this is really cool. A little AA on the 3 guys in the back would be nice, but still well done.

Nice, I like it. The man is spot on, great job. The perspective on the seat seems off to me, but I'm not sure. Still an excellent piece.

He's cool, I like this. He looks short, like people said, but if you made his head a little smaller, I think it would fix the problem.

This does look nice, you must've worked hard on this. One issue I see, though, is an inconsistent light source. Some parts seemed to be drawn once and then mirrored for the other side (the crosses on her breasts, for one), which screws up the light source. Is the light from the left? right? above? Is it (gasp) between the subject and the viewer? I don't think the piece is ruined by any means, but just something to consider in your next piece. Again, it's a good piece.

RoboBOT @ 8/18/2009 1:34:02 PM commented on octopus

This looks more like a squid than an octopus. But no matter. I like it. There are a few areas that could use some touch ups, such as the bubbles (they seem oddly shaped, I dunno) and maybe some more detail on the ground. Perhaps some urchins or anemones? The tentacles definitely need suckers! Some anti-aliasing would help, as well. I really like the colors, tho. Overall, it's a good piece.
