The ship uses the black hands to grab the children from over 100 yards then puts them in the cage, every 30 minutes it takes a child out and eats it, the bones go into storage, and are slowly grinded by the pillars. (that is why the enslaved vhildren are pushing them round) rather than using them as propellers.
