You better still be runnin', boy!

------

Reworking an older piece is something I always wanted to do and the pissed wolf avatar is the perfect pixel for that. Moreover, it's about time for a new avatar.

Seeing the two pieces side by side is quite interesing. The way I approach anatomy, place clusters and create palettes has changed quite a lot over the last 1 1/2 years. However, it is still possible to make out distinct similarities.

My style has become less cartoony and more realistic I presume. Certainly not something I planned, it just happened. ;)

What size canvas did you use?

user
Decroded (Level 1 Rookie) @ 2/1/2016 14:53

i like how he is kinda smiling.

he looks like he actually enjoys being evil rather than being pissed off about something which just makes him scarier

Wolfie is back! And he's more pissed than ever before.

Really stunning improvements there buddy! And an interesting change in style.

The old one had more vivid colors and bold clusters but the new one more than manages to compensate that with more sophisticated clusters (not sure if it's clear what I mean ) and way better use of negative space.

The old one was eye candy but the new one gets the feel/the vibe/the "stimmung" much better!

The Mandrill with the Wolf avatar..

Wow, when you made the first one I was impressed but the improvement here is also obvious. The new one looks much more like a 3-d rendering; it reminds me of the kremlings from Donkey Kong Country a bit. Awesome work and moreso at such a small scale!

Hehe, not the expression I intented. However, I like your interpretation.

Thank you very much!

@ Adam

Thank you very much. :)

The new expression and composition are due to the anatomical changes to his lower jaw. I needed that space in order to fit everything on the canvas.

@ mac 'n queso

Thanks, man. Now that you've mentioned it, it does look like he has two canines. Went a bit too bright there...

@ Dex

Thank you, Dex. I really appreciate that.

You are right. That would have been much more interesting. But I really wanted to cover the whole proccess of making pixel art, including palette creation and all that jazz.

@ Finlal

Thanks a lot, buddy. I see what you like about the older palette, it is certainly more vivid. However, that has changed. I now really like working with more balanced colours.

@ andylittle

I knew this was from you when I saw the new wolf from the preview, awesome as always mate!

Dat shading!

That's awesome character and I like the crazy laughing expression. Looks like a wolf I'd like to party with.

Nice improvement!

Adam (Level 9 Major General) @ 1/17/2016 22:18

In terms of rendering, the new one looks way better in my opinion. I think thet the old one looked a bit more "pissed" though, the new seems more like laughing. I find the boxed old composition more menacing either.

user
Dokitsu (Level 8 Shodan) @ 1/17/2016 13:15

This piece has a lot of drawing skill. Old one is amazing, but this new one is just incredible.

user
Christoballs (Level 4 Murderer) @ 1/17/2016 06:17

Your technique has got tighter, good to see you improve!

user
Macaroni and Cheese (Level 1 Private) @ 1/16/2016 18:58

Nice improvement. The only confusing thing is the teeth. It looks like another canine in the premolar area.

user
Blueschist (Level 2 Flatfoot) @ 1/15/2016 19:18

The improvement here is absolutely fantastic, excellent work.

user
Peyton (Level 4 Mercenary) @ 1/15/2016 19:13

user
Friend (Level 1 Jukyu) @ 1/15/2016 14:21

i think new one is better in ever way :D

user
Dex (Level 11 CEO) @ 1/15/2016 13:30

great improvement in the pixeling! similarly to Finlal I'd like to see the new one with the old one's palette for comparison's sake

user
Finlal (Level 11 Special Agent) @ 1/15/2016 11:33

Pixelling is more than great, but I liked colors on the original version more.

user
andylittle (Level 7 Underboss) @ 1/15/2016 11:12

Now, more angry! :) And it`s awesome!
