EDIT: repaletted and MCOL corrected. old img on www.locustleaves.com/shapeofaman.png for comparision's sake.

WOW! nice one. I havent seen this before. To do only grayscale (c64 wise) pixel art you have to be sure of you pixeling skills. Which aparenty You are. Great stuf - 5/5

That is pretty ruddy stylish as hell.

I very much like that an awful ruddy lot...

This is jsut great. I love the detail on the face and that simple dot on the eye really brings out the dark feel to it.

Now using ptoing's pleasant c64 palette.Only thing he should do to it is, when it's in grayscale mode, make certain that the darkest shades are all of the same luminance, as they are in pepto. This has been autofixed by Timanthes and then reedited by hand when it was needed, although I might have missed a spot or two, it was a five-minute job. If anything is severily lacking in AA, tell me and I'll fix.

why is this not in the weekly showcase yet? i just love teh face , but at first look its easy to see your sig as "felm" atleast to me.

ptoing (Level 7 Cuttlefish) @ 3/31/2006 13:54
The program he pixeled it in has c64 capabilities (Timanthes) but it has really dark colours, even darker than the pepto ones for some reason and the white is grey as well, which is just wrong. You should convert this to Pepto or the brighter palette Helmo.

It's great but to be picky: Are you sure there are four different grays in the C64 palette? I think there are only three gray tones.
(Maybe the brightest gray is a dimmed white though.)

That eye is not grayscale! Cheater!

Helm, is there any windows based program to draw C64 style pixel art (wide pixels)? Or do I just have to use an emulator of some sort?

PS. I'd give you critique but I can't really, I am not good enough. Hopefully I will be soon though.

I'm actualy more in lvoe wiht the sig than the main piece XD. I think it looks good and has that "Helm" touch to it that makes it defined.

Amazing...every pixel seems to have been placed perfectly. Although something doesn't seem to work on the chin...
