I know I'm late to the party, but this is incredible. Those touches of purple and green bring the whole piece together. Amazing work.
Coloring is excellent, I recognized it as looking like bronze right away before even reading the title.
Really epic! It's almost alive, the way you used the shading and the bronze texture are perfects.
This reminds me of people in San Francisco who paint themselves silver or gold, wear sunglasses (the same color), poses as statues, and then make sudden movements as people pass by, scaring them.
Great job!
@orenshtiv
1 it's super realistic in both anatomy and metalic shading
2 it's pretty original; or at least there arent many "good" pieces like it
3 It took a lotta balls to even attempt and the effort is apparent at first glacne
4 the guy's facial expression is kinda saying "hey! wah you lookin' at? ...Foo!"
I also have a question for you oren. Why don't you "like it so much"?
awesome texture, shading, use of colors and anatomy?
Atleast thats what i think when i see it.
umm...no upset but...why do peapole like this one so much?...
Well, I'm supposed to give usefull feedback and all that. But that's just jawdroppingly incredible
I would suggest flipping the piece's x-axis while drawing it to work out the anatomical kinks. Sometimes while pixelling, you get caught up in the details and it's hard to see the work as a whole.
I think you need to concentrate on the volume of the piece, and the location of his features in 3D space. Some of the shading looks like filler, confusing the form rather than describing it (specifically the area to the right of his left eye). From the shape of his face and features, it's hard to tell that's he's intended to be black.
Your color choice is fairly good overall, however there are a few shades that don't sit too well. The difference between the dark blue and the purple brown is too severe, while the gray-blue and the olive green color are almost identical in value. The yellow ochre and the lavender are also very close. It helps me to draw my ramps as intersecting gradiants, so I minimize color cannabalization.
Hope to see an improved update!
I'm amazed by the detail to shine on this piece. The way you depicted the light source on the collar, neck, and forehead really shows you expertise with the piece. However, I hate to just sound like a fanboy, so I guess one critique wouldn't hurt.
His face seems very flat for some reason. It would seem from the brow down, everything seems flat. His nose seems extremely small , and is at an odd angle when compared to the rest of his features( maybe turning it more to his right and lengthening the nose would help?). I'm guessing that he has a scar through his cheek and brow? The ears are also problematic as they seem to be attached to his cheek.(much like Alex already mentioned) My main crit however, is not really technical, but more over a personal opinion. I just don't like the way the hair was done. At first glance it looked like an alien head with spots on his enlarged head. Upon further review, I realised it was his fro. The lighting of the bronzed fro is muey excelente, though.
Nit picking aside, this is an excellent piece to study metallic shine through light sources. As always with most of your works, great friggin' job...
how did you match the bronze colors so well? daamnn. The palette feels just insanely accurate somehow!
