I don't think it was the recreation that bothered anyone, so much as the omission of the reference.  I don't personally care, but it's a site rule (#5):

[...] If the image is a trace or relies heavily on specific photographic material, then provide a link to this material.

I think you went a bit overboard with the AA but aside from that, very cool piece. Amazing pallet as always.

You linked to a ref photo in an earlier submission of this, maybe if you reverse-image search, you'll find the source?

I think it's a bit iffy to submit something where you used reference (presumably without licence) without crediting it, so it'd be worth the effort to hunt that information down.
