I can't believe I haven't faved this one yet! Top-notch megaman portraits, you did a great job.
Glad you continued pixeling and that you are alive. Hope to see more of your stuff in the future.
@dvp: Thanks for the C + C, but I'm not understanding all of it.
I get it about the eyes, though. I didn't like it either, when I saw that shading them to their supposed eye colors made their irises vanish like that. I was trying to make them real, so I removed a lot of black from each profile. Didn't realize it was a focal point, though. However, It's kind of obvious, now that you point it out. (Aqua Man's eyes are my favorite too! Best accident I ever kept! ^v^) Not sure what to do about that besides returning them to their original state. As for the "overshading": did you mean the shadow casted on some of them? Was that too much? If so, "Aww, I thought it looked cool...", but what should I do as a replacement, besides undoing it?
Lastly, I have no idea which "robot master" you're talking about here, concerning the "green + blue vs red/orange" thing, unless you're talking about the dark blue I've used with those like Gravity Man and Spark Man, in an effort to provide an intermediate color between the darkest orange/red and straight black. That was the hardest thing I was fighting with while redoing these. If you start blending the palette, you'll find that yellow → organge → red was the shortest spectrum, being only about two colors for yellow and about four for orange with most of them being very close to each other, than there were for green or b lue, each one having about 10+ colors, not to mention dark colors for both, making them much easier to work with. So when it came time for shadows while working with orange, the only solutions I could find were: A) ramp it to dark red, which then ramps to dark unsaturated blue, but overall wouldn't look like the robot's orange, B) take it to dark brown, which, to me, didn't provide a dark enough shade, C) ramp it to dark blue, so that, at its worst, would make the robot look like it's dual-lit with a softer light on the other side (e.g. Spark Man), or D) Use black, which looked harsh. If you're not talking about any of this, then can you give me a name, please? I'm not really following.
Nevertheless, thanks for enjoying my touch-ups. I'm glad you like them, overall.
This is really great work by the way, I really like some of them, Yamato Man redo is my favorite.
Since you asked for C & C , I like to point something up.
First, the robot master with question mark, I believe the *green shade is culprit(0 64 88). When using as shading, *green are not really good against red/orange(or any strong warm color). But you can broke that rules when working with super limited palette(only green and red allowed), or against desaturated red/orange. Since this is limited NES palette(doesn't have desaturate color), the best bet is to stick with dark brown(80 48 0) as your darkest warm shading.
Second thing I would like to point up, is that some of the portrait are overly shade, especially their eyes. So, the portrait had lost some of the important focal point, and that is what made Rockman such an iconic game I believe, the "intimidating stare" from each robot master. You did a great job on Aqua Man, nice contrast on his eyes.
I'm not a pro my self, so feel free to correct me if some of my opinion are wrong.
*Edit: Actually it's green+blue(still in cool color category), but the same rules still apply.
Thanks for the comment! They took about a week and a half to finish. Honestly, I worried about the ratio between the flashes. I can try to make it longer for each one.
Whoa! this mustve been a lot of work!
I like how you remastered each of them! I do wish though that the frames did change so fast so I could have a longer look at some of them before it switches
really nice work though!
Aw, thanks! That means a lot!
