Just a teeny tiny Yule Buck carrying his pile of twigs to gift the naughty kids!
In Finland we have joulupukki, literally "christmas goat", "yule buck". He used to be a terrifying goat man who actually instead of giving out presents, demanded them. I'm not completely familiar with the lore, but I think he's kind of a mixture of multiple different characters in multiple different folklore, I remember reading Korvatunturi (homebase of joulupukki) was built off of kids skulls or something...
Anyway, at some point in the history he started mending with Santa Claus, and started giving gifts instead of taking.
As for the twigs, when I was a kid, joulupukki did not have goats head anymore, but I surely was told that if I don't behave, I will get twigs for christmas instead of gifts. |
Interesting info and art. Thanks!
