I wouldn't bug out or object if you rejected it :)
Anyway, I think the NPA discussion should move on to the forums ;) http://pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=3836
I'm cool :) I mean I do agree.. I mean the gradient is used fittingly here.. so is this piece still art? I think so. Is it still pixel art - not quite. As I said it's pixel art with an asterisk :D.. And I think it's not up to me to decide whether such pieces belong to PJ's main gallery. I think it's a worthy discussion but I think this specific comments box is too small a platform.. :D
LOL I hoped we wouldn't get into the gradient argument, but oh well.. I knew what I was going for when I submitted it.
Anyway, I do agree that people new to pixel art might get confused.. So sorry for mudding the water, as you put it :D I guess it'll be my first and last gradient containing piece at PJ.
Then again - it's kind of sad that hybrid PA pieces get no go with such outlook. I'm not talking for my own works. I just remember guys posting really cool stuff, that had really significant PIXEL eye candy, but that stuff was put away because it had like one or two NPA things that didn't really dominate visually (i.e. the pixel-art part was still bonafide). Gunstar's Bubble Bobble ilustration (which had smooth photoshopped shadows in it) comes to mind.
In my opinion, it'd be awesome if there'd be some sort of way to submit these things with a sort of 'asterisk'.. That'd note that it contains portions of NPA.. But I dunno perhaps I'm complicating too much.
On the serious tip tho.. I don't see nothing wrong if the gradient is merely a backdrop, and isn't used to visualize shading etc (that's okay in vector but totally dumb in pixels).
It serves the same purpose as a solid color fill. Almost, cuz in this case I simply couldn't use a single color for several reasons.
Anyway, when (if) the game will see daylight, I'm sure once you see how it works, you won't be against it ;)
I love it :D
Someday i'll make my own game
My first fav. :D
