On my monitor, the background is nonexistent, save for that line of light.
Looks nice.

I don't watch Lost though.

i dont like how the ligth appears at the end. i would rather used a column coming out of the hatch...

I thought I was the only one with a bright monitor :)
Don't lament the time spent on the background. In time you only get faster.
I believe that the farthest arm should have caught a bit more of the glow, seeing how the other one is backlit. Also, seeing how the guy is bald, you could have made the highlight on his head a bit brighter.
All in all, a formidable effort, and I like the colors.
