This was released at Outline 2007 earlier this month, taking part in the 16-colour picture competition, where it was ranked first - even though there were only 4 entries, 2 of them being more or less jokes :)

Mostly made with Promotion, except at the party place where I used Deluxe Paint on my Atari STE.

It uses STE palette, meaning 16 values for each R, G and B channel, for a total of 4096 possible colours which isn't too bad and a big improvement over the STF palette with its meagre choice of 512 colours.

You hurt me little punk so I decide to post a recent pixel work. So you have to go to my profile. WinUAE is stronger than Winston you know ;)

Thanks! I hope too we'll compete in the same graphics compo one day - that would mean we'll see a new pixel picture from you! :)

State of the art ! the palette is really studed with attention and each pixel is in the right place (I dream to fight with you in a demoparty oldschool gfx competition !)

Very funny, great job. I love the characters, the backgrounds and the animals. Nice gendarme too. And thank you for using the extended STE palette :)

It uses a lot of mid-tones and is (relatively) low contrast, with really good use of patterns/dithering/textures, and emphasis on creating a solid 3D effect. Overall, good strategy. I don't like the cartoon look. But still, it's a rare quality specimen for the 16 color limit. Isn't it amazing what's possible with so little? Notice that no part of the picture is confusing: everything is immediately identifiable (and enjoyable).

I like the cartoonish look. Great Job.

Oooo! Shhhweet! :D LOVE the pallette and composition! :D

That's ok! Just saying that it seems odd.

exocet (Level 5 Captain) at 5/31/2007 11:45:17 AM
Setzer: Nice to hear about that!

Ego: I think I know what you mean with the shading on the nose of the giraffe... But I think it's a very minor issue and don't feel like doing any more changes now.

Ego (Level 3 Chief) at 5/29/2007 9:13:05 PM
Your style is so recognizable! I can see what pieces are yours from almost anywhere!

Very nice.  The giraffe's nose is odd though. The second darkest on it breaking the curve of the darker shade on the left part of the nose is making it seem the nose is curving up to me, even though when I zoom in, I see that its just straight.

looks like a huge accident in the making

Setzer (Level 8 Cannibal) at 5/27/2007 8:49:21 PM
Just for the record, I stretched this out and am using it as my wallpaper ATM.

Gorli (Level 1 Rookie) at 5/27/2007 6:20:25 AM

ui_ (Level 1 Rookie) at 5/26/2007 6:00:46 PM

exocet (Level 5 Captain) at 5/25/2007 4:43:26 AM

Thanks all!

Varock Shade: I didn't really keep note of the time I spent on it, but I'd expect it to be around 20-30 hours.

jalonso: I agree the sheeps don't bring much to the picture, but I don't think it takes anything away from it or weaken the 'message'... plus sheeps are cool and I wanted some in there

jalonso (Level 11 Godfather) at 5/24/2007 4:15:18 AM
Great job. Only the sheep make no sense.

Mille (Level 5 Killer Klown) at 5/24/2007 3:11:10 AM
J'ai pensé aux gendarmes de St Tropez out de suite aussi... Très sympa, les couleurs, la touche du gendarme et de la giraffe... (et les moutons!)

drZool (Level 6 Serial Killer) at 5/24/2007 1:37:00 AM
Loveley! This is why I browse the PJ!

elend (Level 1 Rookie) at 5/24/2007 1:05:04 AM
Wow, amazing work, Exocet. I totally love the colours. Palette- and RGB limitations seem to be no problem for you at all. I also like that dithering.

Varock Shade (Level 7 Underboss) at 5/23/2007 11:22:12 PM
very very nice! how many hours did it cost you?

kakikukeko (Level 5 Detective) at 5/23/2007 9:08:41 PM
haha ça me rapelle le gendarme de st tropez!

surprising color choice, but it seems to work pretty well!
