The colours probably need major tweakage. Don't know where to go with them. Any advice? The dustcloud kind of bothers me.

Maybe drawing inspiration from the Road Runner might not be the best idea, but truth be told... I find the smoke cloud in Megaman X to be rather ugly. I also believe that dust does in fact form puffy clouds (refer to exhibit C). I could do with the happy cloud idea, the little blue guy is supposed to be fairy-esque after all.

The dust doesn't look like dust. Dust doesn't form puffly clouds. Look for Mega Man X games where he dashes and forms a smoke cloud. That should help you.
