Advance wars is my favorite GBS game, and this is just so like the game.
The defence stars, the guy with binoculars, and the CO portraits and health bars.

spartan_117, you shouldn't really care about the color count for the mockup. There's a good difference between limiting colors for a sprite or a background but not for the mockup where sprites and HUD goes over the background. If you see unnecessary colors for sprites or BG, let me know.

Feron, no rush for the eyes, that's how they do them or maybe there's something I don't see.

Woo! Cool! That's a very nice looking style!

Though, I don't like the character portraits. Usually, they show more of the face, or heads are tilted or something. And I think large expressive anime eyes would come in handy when you're cropping the face like that, so that could be worth considering. Really, I think the portraits are the "weakest" part of the mock up.

Everything else is golden though. From the concept, to the shading. The wood looks fantastic!

I played advancewars2, and this really matches style!
However, the red things are not so reconigizeable, I can see what they are (but I cant find an English word for it in my memories) but it probably can be done better. Maybe the color works against it...
