Skullboy's attack motions. While standing, you can do a normal hit, or by holding down you can do a trip-swing. I'm thinking the trip-swing will be used to knock heavy enemies over, or stuff like that.

How's the animation? I tried to make it as fluent as possible.

Oh so you made the sprites for this. Nice job on the animation.

I can't really tell.

Perhaps you're seeing something in it that I'm not; that's probably the case. I'm not quite to the point in my pixel art where "slyness" is actually a factor I think about when I'm making it. Shading itself is enough to keep me occupied fully when I'm pixelling, and don't even get me started on colors.

The artist who made the concept is much more talented of an artist than I, so my pixel naturally didn't do it justice. But I'm hoping it was close enough ;)

EDIT: off-topic, i just checked out your own gallery. Nice stuff! You've got some style :D

What I mean by personality.
I'm saying you've taken a good character and simplified it too much.
Now don't get me wrong simple is good, I just think you're undercutting the character of the sprite.

Souly (Level 4 Murderer) at 8/13/2008 2:19:05 AM
I'm sorry but honestly the sprite doesn't portray the slyness your concept art has.
I know it's a tiny sprite but come on, the character looses so much personality.
I really think it's the how plain and simple the skull is, he has so much more coolness in the concept.

Iunno that's just my two cents.

Tadashi Blossom (Level 1 Rookie) at 8/12/2008 12:17:59 PM
Yeah, Souly, the tiles are just placeholders. Those kinds of details will have to come afterwards, because otherwise the game will never get finished. All the level details will be improved and increased during the touch-up period after the gameplay is complete.

The similarity to Dad 'n Me is mere coincidence. Skullboy plays nothing like that game, and this is all done in pixel art. Skullboy's body is purple... if I changed that, he'd just be Skullboy with the wrong color body :P

Oh, and whoever hasn't seen the character concept, here it is:

I agree with TheBlackWaltz, the design is nearly the same as Dad 'n Me. If you are going to make a game, I suggest making something more origional. Even Changing the color of his shirt would suffice.

Your character designs for this game are sweet.
But the tiles are totally lacking.

Haha, demand a mockup? Check out the progress at TIG Source...

The game is already well underway, and Skullboy can do all kinds of stuff. Plenty of screenshots there as well. I'm gonna sprite some zombies pretty soon...

Thanks, guys!

When I said "ttyl" 4 hours ago after months of no contact I didn't expect it to be so soon, but you said you did some pixelling and I have to do the favor of giving a comment (Also "going to bed" clearly didn't work out either, damn cough)

You did a good job on making the animation fluid, but what I like is you didn't ignore the body composure throughout the swing. I'm assuming the bone is relatively light to allow such a quick one-handed swing. My only suggestion is that when you go to make the triple swing you make sure the character's weight is properly adjusted so he doesn't make illogical transitions or impossible throws as it changes between swing types. Other than that I demand a mock-up so we can see how the minimalistic character fits into his world.
