The only flaw in your attempt to imitate is how soft the face is, in the avatar the highlights stick out more giving us a more 3 dimensional geometric face with luster and crisp. Still, it's good work.

Maybe not neccecariliy pillow, but there's a lot of banding, especially on the top. And overall it's too soft to be an Old-skool iLKketar. Look how angular his avatars are. Also his head is too big for the canvas. Anyway, aside from nitpicks on how close it is to iLKke's stuff, I'd say you you still did a pretty good job.

Maybe wait a few months for the April Fools challenge and see if you can improve your iLKke-abilities by then :P

I guess you haven't seen um, his avatars, because I totally followed what they did. If it looked ALMOST pillowshaded on his, I did the same thing. Let's learn not to be an asshole, alright?

Not pillow shaded. Bordering on it in places like the forhead and the bulb of the nose, but not pillow shaded.

Note: Pillow shading is not having shades 1 pixel apart. Pillow shading is following the outline/center of something with a shade and following that line with the next shade.

I'm backing up 1up on this one, the shading is center-shaded or pillow shaded. Not necesarly a horrible thing but also not the style iLKke whent for.

right, so if the definition of pillowshading that both pixeljoint and pixelation taught me a few years back when i started pixel art isn't right, i'm going to go ahead and assume you're using the 100% i will win this argument even if it means i'm wrong in the process definition

The lighting is soft, and overly frontal, both of which detract slightly from the piece, but neither are what pillowshading means.
