great job man, sorry I didn't get comment on this earlier. I love how you incorporated the color schemes into the new designs without making it seem tacked on. Also I don't like the sound of "unrealized" xD
@ManningKrull: That was our intention, to take simple ideas that we could actually finish (you'll see by the rest of jake's mockups that we get distracted easily...) and give them a little beef. Dig Dug is a personal fave of us both, so who knows. We were inspired by snake's latest work and want to do something over our Christmas break, so cross your fingers!

This is such a cool idea, and it would be awesome to see it carried through with other old games like Donkey Kong, Dig Dug, Burger Time, etc.

Yeah these are awesome, nice unified style and very appealing. I like the design and execution of the starfish, except I'm not sure how it would play out alongside the other "Ghosts", their silhouttes are all similar whereas it is very distinct. Also I agree pacman wouldn't do these sprites justice :P
Pacman- really? I think you're aiming far too low for such high quality sprites. These scream action RPG to me, and the style is strongly reminiscent of games like Brainlord. I've fallen in love with coloring, and the designs are very clever. I can see why they all float, since your intention was a pacman remake, but I would really like to see some more varieties in their methods of movement regardless. The undersea tiles are absolutely amazing, and flow together seamlessly- very impressive.
