Very nice! It reminds me a little of Metal Slug, the animation would be a challenge though as MS uses a lot of sub-pixel animation. I found a tutorial for it :) 2dwillneverdie.com/tutorial/give-your-sprites-depth-with-sub-pixel-animation/
animate that would be a problem :v, what software ur used?
this is exquisit... the render is such a cool design and the colors used arent the typical steampunk inspired colors the the hint of green in some of the parts... very cool, faved and 5 point rating :)
love the smokes. you did a great job with teh chimney, too. I'll just ignore the claws and the body 'couse they're too awesome.
Thanks again, chaps. Haven't had much time for pixelling lately so I'll have to reserve some time for it soon.
Shweeeet! Awesome shading! Adding this to my favs! :) Great job!
Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.
I never been very much compelled to comment an exellent pixelarts.
Since what else you can say each time then "perfect". :)
Huh, oh yeah. I forgot all about that! Another year and we could grind a whole steampunk tileset out of your poor bones, and I could abandon this whole bothering to learn how to sprite thing completely! XD
Thanks again for the positive feedback. I'm going to have to do more of these biggun's.
Doppleganger: Thanks, G. You'll love me for saying this, but the palette for the airship part's fabric was slightly edited from the example palette you gave me when you provided help on gamingw/pixelation. You have yourself to blame! However, I think the palette looks pretty good there and helped me to get a good idea on where to go with the other other mixtures.
The steam I wanted to keep consistent with my other steampunk set pieces, but I can look into muting them a bit to make them less crisp. I'll look into that one. :)
Scribblette: Didn't you ask me to make some steampunk stuff a long long time ago? If so, I finally delivered. :)
Nice work, G! This has come leaps and bounds since your first colorized conception.
The parts that I really like are the way you've colored the metallic and wooden textures. Both the texturization and the specific colors you've chosen are ace. Most especially those parts that are metallic, such as the turbines.
What I find lacking are the colors of the pulled fabric (is that what that is?) between the wooden frames that create the shape of the machine. There is a rather prominent gray-green that is being used as a shadow for this material and it could really benefit from being brought closer to gray or brown, or even blue. The green in it only serves to create a sort of sickly flesh palette in that area. (I know, because quite recently I made the mistake of using a similar palette on a portrait)
The other thing is the steam coming out the back. It's not like the colors or the shading are bad, it's just that they fail to serve the purpose of further defining what it is. For something like that, it would be of benefit to use much softer and subtler colors, so as to sort of disappear in contrast with everything else. Steam is a subtle thing, and the way you've represented it, you'd think it was nearly as hard as steel.
Regardless of all that, this is definitely some of the best work I've seen you do. And it is well-deserving of all the attention it's been getting. Kudos to you!
very nice sprite and colours.
Animating it will be a challenge.
Nice to see the full pic, Inq! I think you did a good job on it.
Just something about the muted colors... and the style of cute mechanical thing reminds me of Akira Toriyama's artwork. I guess it's a bit of a stretch but the similarity's there imo :/
Congratulations on finally finishing it, Inq! It looks absolutely marvellous. Hope I make anywhere near the degree of improvement as you've had since your first works. :)
Thanks again guys. I don't recall anything like this being in Crono Trigger especially as it doesn't have the FF styled side view battle system. Don't worry, Perkele, I doubt this'll be the last steampunk thing I do but I haven't got many fresh ideas in my head yet. I do have another boss idea jotted down for the same project, but it won't be a steampunk robot or person, just a creature of sorts.
Pick of Destiny? lol
Love it *_*
7/7 and fav.
Wow, never seen your work before, looks great! * Rushes to gallery *
Awesome, I love those steampunk stuff. Faved this excellent piece!
An awesome effort and good progress from what I remember.
Colour choice is amazing!
Absolutly love steampunk.
Thank you for the clarification, TheInquisitor. :)
Well, this made your piece... perfect! :D
Very nice Inq, I can't think of anything, apart from of course the steam looking like smoke.
Actually, Asukicco, that's supposed to be steam, as in steampunk, not smokepunk. Maybe I didn't quite get that effect correct. I wanted to keep it like that though to keep it consistent with my other steampunk pieces back on my portfolio site. Since they're all for the same thing, I wanted to keep them similar.
Thanks for the positive feedback guys. :) I'm sure this won't be the last steampunk thing I make but it'll probably be the largest for a while. I don't actually have any other boss concepts yet.
Pretty smooth, very nice choice of colors, favd! smoke is pretty zen-like
Wow! This is so... powerful! The only thing I dislike is the white of the smoke. Too bright for me.
wow, would never ever have the motivation to make something big and detailed like this.
Yeah it took me a long long time to muster up the motivation to finish it. I think I lost my bottle to start with. It was a mammoth effort from me and a really stretch of my abilities. I usually stick to smaller stuff.
Wow, great work!
I remember seeing a early wip of this at pixelation I think.
It's so cool
