When I first saw the picture, I thought it was an octopus with a huge hat.

I had to search for a reference on google to see it's actually just his head.  You should try to make his beard less messy

In order to make a more constructive comment: the general design and lineart is nice, it suffers from being not very readable in many areas though. Try to make the border of the hat cleaner instead of just putting highlights here and there. Also the hat suffers from pillowshading. As one can see from your gallery you seem to use pillow shading almost everywhere. Try to stay away from it ;)

It's pretty messy.
