I think it is the shading and it looks alot like a robot while the others look more organic..

well, the scorpion does use some different colours than the rest, is it that? or is the shading different in some way?

I like them, but the scorpion on the far right doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the sprites.

thanks for the feedback everyone. all characters are original and any resemblance to other characters(inspector gadget lol) is purely coincidental.

randommonkies - the creatures with light outlines are for a certain environment, yes, and i'm sure they look pretty odd on a light theme.

my first impression was that these characters seem very iconic, I almost thought at first that they were remakes of some old game i couldn't put my finger on, but they are all original.

Only crit would be about the dark jellyfish in the top corner, the light outline doesn't seem to fit with the style, but it may have something to do with the environment its in.
