Wanted to do a piece using the primary colours and black to see if I could make it seem as colourful as I could. Thought a Peacock butterfly would be a good place to start.  Went a bit crazy with the dithering to try and get the illusion of more colours, getting any kind of green was especially tough using this pallette.

Nice experiment. But perhaps it should be clarified that Red, Yellow and Blue are pigment primaries, not the Additive primary colors (RGB) that applies to a computer monitor. (These colors are great for this motif though :) )

And a small dither tip: The "square pattern" look better if every 2nd line is offset one pixel, esp. when mixing an even number of colors.

I hate butterflies.

user
Stickman (Level 6 SWAT) @ 1/8/2010 12:41

Nice one. The blue and purple tones on the flower really bring out the richness of the butterfly wings.

yrizoud (Level 6 SWAT) @ 1/6/2010 12:17

Out of curiosity, did you draw it on a LCD or CRT ? I am using CRT and it looks good, but I wonder if display on LCD will give very different result.
