Firstly I would like to stress that the character design and initial pixelling was all done by 'Wolverine', see it here http://pixeljoint.com/pixelart/3107.htm ,This is just my effort at animating it, he has kindly given me permission to post it here, so here it is!!

The proccess, if anyone is interested was to break down Wolverine's original GIF into layers (Filling in the blanks, like drawing the entire right arm, even though most of it would be obscured by the torso and legs.), using graphics gale and then to animate the layers to produce a breathing motion!!

I like the way it has turned out, not great, but I am pleased with it for an experimentation.

Before anybody is too critical about the amount of chest expansion that is portrayed, I intentionally went over the top on it to produce a more monster-esque feel and emphasise the sheer power of the beast!, I would like to have added a little knee bend to it, but as of yet I havent decided the best way of acheiving the result I would like!!

Maybe I will update it soon!!

'Wolverine' I hope you approve, Thanks for letting me post it here for all to see!!

Crits, as always, very welcome!!

ya it deffinetly is a great animation, i think it does the original justice... i would maybe do something with the legs a bit, and the breathing movements/stomach area is a little off i think..

I just think that the legs could be a little animated too, but it's still a awesome work on another person sprite.

Congratulations! o/

It looks like me in the morning before I have my morning cigarette.  And yes, I am that hairy.

My only crit is that the chest expansion is too jerky.  I like the large expansion, it has a good feel, but maybe try adding in some in between frames to smooth the expansion a bit, or double each frame for the exhalation and increase the framerate.

He looks like he just ferociously fought something off and is recovering. The only thing that he lacks is leg movement, but you said knee bending is still in the works. Amazing job :)

Hey, nicely done.  I feel kinda good that someone took the time and effort to do something I never would have had time to do and you did a good job of it too.  I love the hugely exaggerated breathing and the more subtle arm and chain movements too.  Only a few bits stuck out that I feel could just be quickly fixed.  1. Very slight jutting out of the muscle on his left upper arm that wasn't like that in the original.  Looks to be caused by a 1 pixel stretch of the arm.  2.  The same thing occurs on his right leg directly underneath the knee.  3.  I probably didn't make it clear enough but the black line going down his left upper arm is meant to be his long hair coming down from the front-right side of his centre parting. So it shouldn't move exactly with the arm as he breathes and should actually appear above the chest when they overlap.  That's probably my fault as sometimes its hard to tell what certain details are if you weren't the person who actually put them there.   Overall though I think it's great work and I'd like to add it to my site (when its back online and revamped) with a link to your page if you have one.  Just curious, why the alternate blue scheme?

I love that extremely subtle movement in his lower left arm.  Exquisite.

Garma (Level 1 Rookie) at 9/1/2005 10:15:08 AM
Also, (sorry to point out) I see when he moves, his left arm, the gap turns white for 1 frame, and in another one pixel turns white in his arm. Sorry to point out mistakes...

"The chest expansion, sucking in air and chain dangling looks perfect -- wouldn't change a thing." What he said.

The chest expansion, sucking in air and chain dangling looks perfect -- wouldn't change a thing. You've really done a fantastic job bringing Wolverine's piece to life. Obviously a little bounce in his legs would be nice, but you sound as if you might get to that some day in the future.
