Smashing piece!
Agreed on the award thing. The majority of the old pieces in the hall of fame are basically garbage compared to what is being put out nowadays. Oh well, not that it matters any, but is something to consider when browsing the HoF.
From someone who loves drawing and sculpting anatomy and creatures...this is really quite fantastic.
awards don't make stuff better. You just think stuff is good because of rewards and that's a problem of PJ. The awards here are only public choice, and lots of the stuff which is in the top 10 isn't flawless either. The stuff which is showed in the "Hall of fame" is also mostly stuff from 2005/2006, which is because these pieces got the most ratings. Awards are also pure randomness, some of my favourite pieces here also don't earned awards and it doesn't make them worser. Sometimes it's embarassing which pieces gets awards but this also doesn't matter. In fact you neither can make a living from awards nor they help you for getting jobs, they are only for pushing your internet ego. It's more important to know what you can and which things you have to practice for improving your skills. And there are only about 400 people active at pj (at least what you can tell from the insane pieces)
I'm surprised you did not win any reward for this beautiful animation. Very good work, I'm impressed !
This makes me want to charge my buster. I agree with Kaiseto, bold is the perfect word. Bold and Level Boss.
Thanks for your comment Kaiseto, you really encourage me. If I'd make it now new I'd add at least 2 Frames more to get the impression of a smooth moving body.
partly rotation, partly new pixelled. The sloppy movements in the joints was caused by lacking animation skills for something like that - I overworked only the head movement as I found out a better technique (as you remarked it's definitely better) but I don't overworked the body again.
Awesome! But if you look at it for a while, he is doing a pelvic thrust :P
Gotta say, I really love the style of this. Reminds me of something you'd see in like, the most awesome SNES/Genesis era game ever. Bold is the word that comes to mind, what with the very dark blacks and bright reds.
I agree with Metaru that the spikes could be animated more smoothly, though I'm not sure if that could be accomplished without adding more frames.
just out of curiosity, did this use some sort of rotation/skeletal animation process? the jaws looks really smooth and consistent, while most of the joints and the two spikes on the front look noticeable sloppy.
Its slightly jerky animation, shading style and design actually reminds me a lot of FrankieSmileShow's stuff, it's really good. Also, it's a huge improvement over the original one.
I like a lot of your stuff, actually. Keep it up!
I thought this was a gyrados...
I remember seeing this in the RPGMakerVX fourms. Great work as usual, Cyangmou!
Wow
