Good point!
A light toned background is a good choice too! I don't have any issue with a background BEING there, my issue is that it's pure white. Pure white is troublesome in the same way maximum-saturation colors are troublesome - they're so bold and strong that they can obscure the detail of the piece.
Just going with a light grey tone might cause the legs and skin to blend into the background though (my other concern about pure white). However, a light tone of a complimentary color (such as a light orange) could make the piece pop out even more, without making it too harsh.
@jal: Totally with you there.
Although I respect Ego's point, I'd say there are different qualities to the transparent and white backgrounds. I think the white background compliments the delicacy feel of her skin, especially in her legs. I feel like if it had a transparent background, those lights would seem too harsh against PJ's neutral grey. I feel perhaps a light toned background would help bring out the qualities of both ends of the value scale.
Other than that, I can't read the line under her feet as a shadow (if that's what you were going for). I feel it's almost uneccessary except for giving the piece weight.
Overall though, I love the style! It's really clean and readable.
@Ego, I had the same reaction you did seeing this piece and this artist. I didn't mind the white Bg here as its proper and fitting in size but a trans BG never hurts. I reply here because she just added another piece and I was devastated in seeing such a lack of finesse and quality :/
Oh, yes, you're back! I've kinda had an eye out looking for more from you. These two pieces have a nice-looking visual flair to them.
I think this has less trouble than the other Lace piece. It's both larger and more dynamic, which go a long way to making it easily readable. It shares some issues though: For one, it desperately needs a transparent background. The white is seriously choking it. In fact, here it is with a tranparent background! Other than that, the skin tone and the shade on the legs (I assume socks/stockings/whatever) need a bit more contrast with each other. Also, why is her head skin a different color from her body skin?
There's other flaws, but I do really like the general aesthetic you've got going on.
I really like the style of this....but wait, what's that I can hear?...oh, she's crying out to be animated!
Well done.
