ok, so here is the promised edit, didn't i say that i'll get right to it :). besides redoing most of the shading on the face i also played around with the pallette. i hope it's an improvement
and to answer b.o.b.'s question: no, it's not really supposed to be franz ferdinand, just some (stereo)typical 19th/early 20th century figure. there was quite a bunch of franzes around here, royal ones even, that time and it also happens to be my middle name, so it was my first pick when i couldn't think of anything

This is amazing. Great palette. The hair is incredibly well textured and I love all the attention to detail in the lighting such as the subtle under-lighting illuminating the area underneath his chin and that other little lightsource placing that highlight on the left side of his hair. Excellent piece.
Very nice indeed. The is an extra yellow color used in three pixels only. These may be left overs from your last pallete. I really how it looks realistic yet retain a pixel look..
