A word of advice, write a backstory for your abomination of nature. I believe it's essential when presenting characters.
Sounds like it can be anything from a foot down all the way to the core, so caves should be fine since they're inbetween. :)
By the by: can underground also mean an underground cave? Or near the earth's core? Just anything underground basically?
