well, it was made with mspaint, so I guess your definition of pixel art must be different than mine.

Akira: suggestions as to how to correct anatomy, or what in particular is off (acknowledging, as we have, that it's anime) would be more useful, much more so that just a negative comment that leaves me banging my head against a wall.

whenever you have the time I'd love a real critique.

the sexism?
do you perhaps mean the sexuality? or the sexiness?

shark: the rest of her is pretty crappy right now, she's a sketch I've been toying with on and off for years, loving what I have drawn but unable to finish the damn piece, you know? anyways, maybe one day I'll finish the rest of her.

all those lines on the floor that are running to us/away from us (as opposed to the ones running side to side) should, theoretically, meet at one place if you entended them all backwards into the wall. That's one point perspective and it doesn't look like you've quite gotten it down pat.

The obedience to the status-quo on this site is a little terrifying at times, but if you search there are a few artists doing original stuff and actually creating pixel *art* as one person put it.

the obvious copy-flip-paste takes away from it, your lightsourcing is off because of it and the complete symmetry makes it look LESS believable.

his face without mask looks unnatural because every hair on each side is symmetrical, my eye picks up on it right away and it looks icky.

and lightsourcing it from the middle tends to flatten things and contributes to the dreaded pillow shading, i suggest going with a lightsource from one direction of sticking with it. this means the two sides of the face will not look the same because the light will affect them differently, but it will help the picture look more realistic and POP

good luck in future!

the AAing could stand to be darker, contrast in general would benefit from a bit of upping
but cute lineart, and nice colour choices.

the wonky style appeals to me, as does the thicker lineart
I think I'm going to rather like your art!

I don't agree that things have to be small and meticulous to be pixel art, but you ought to know that that is the general consensus of the pixel world. If you draw big in the pixel world you'll be rejected, and yet the digital artistry world really doesn't want much to do with you either, it's a weird limbo area right now, but it's changing, slowly.
I draw with mspaint, pixel for pixel, and it's neither small nor meticulous, usually, and it's clearly pixel art, and it has been accepted here, after a few bumps in the road.
But you'll face a lot of naysayers who want to keep pixel art small and in its roots. It DOES have roots being small and meticulously done, that's true, but it CAN be much more than that, it can be big now, and use loads of colours, and yet people keep it small and count colours like madmen for reasons I just don't get. YES back in the day colour counting was important, but it's not today, so why do it? Why?
Purists/traditionalists will probably not like your use of their medium, but it doesn't mean it's not a use of the medium.

I like it, although there are a few jaggies I'd clean up and some lightsource issues that need addressing.

that's a floor? I thought that was a fence or a wall, if it's a floor it could use some perspective
also, the snow wouldn't be so bright-white at night, especially on the sides of the trees away from the white-light of the mooooon.

canada is a lot bigger than that! and so is the pacific ocean, much larger.
and antarctica stays exactly the same, , which might be size-correct but makes it look like it isn't moving, maybe add one or two pixels that go 'round to help it move with the rest.

the arms are diffferent lengths and widths
the one on the left (our left) looks like it'd reach the knee (too long) if the figure let it drop straight down. That same arm also has a very skinny elbow section, looks a bit wonky.

a little critique...anatomically speaking the nose is too high and the you've got fingers on three different planes of viewing. Also, the thumbs looks short and seem to lack a joint.

As much as I see that you're going for simplicity, sometimes that can be deceptively COMPLICATED to create. I think that AAing, although a semi-complicated thing, would enhance the simplicity of the piece by letting the view concentrate on the shapes and not their edges. It would give it more flow, as aa is wont to do, and it would simply make it prettier. If you had used none-aaing in some creative way, to make a statement or to enhance the outlines, having jagged lines to call attention to places and smoother ones in other spots, then I'd accept your answer of simplicity but that does not seem to be the case. Simplicity is one of the hardest things to create effectively. Good luck in the future!

I think saying "is wrong" is little harsh, and not entirely true since there are no rules as such in art. Only fools believe that there are.

your AAing is atypical, admittedly, and it achieve the goal of softened edges if you were to do it in a slightly different manner, but it's really up to you.

:-) Everyone hates my AAing too, tis life.

you might want to check out loomis for some tips on anatomy and pose/posture.

and I appreciate what you were trying to do with the folds on her garment but they too would benefit from a little study of fabric and how it folds and wrinkles.

it's a good beginning though!

your lightsourcing could use some work. I find it unlikely that any lightsource would highlight both sides of the insides of her breasts, but not touch her far arm and far leg at all. Also her nose has a highlight on the opposite side of the main highlight of the face, making it look a little odd. Did you use a reference for this?

this piece is show at a sort of halfdone stage. After this I used msword to add texture and more complicated designs to the kimono, obi, fan, etc. I guess I was seeing the hair as part of the more complicated work andI will consider altering it now that you have, quite correctly, pointed out that it's a little out of place.

thank you!

her arms are uneven and disturbingly bent/broken looking in places, you might want to address the major anatomy issues going on here because it's really detracting from the beauty of the peace. The hair is nicely done, could use some shading or whatever to go with the body more. And the dress, on my monitor, is just a white blob, might want to darken the shading I can see if I tilt my monitor. Also, hands are different sizes.
