I guess it won't be approved.
I had to come up with a less realistic version of it to get it approved...
I know it's very close to my reference but is that a fault?

Edit: Here's my reference: http://www.about-image.de/bild/13446/scrubslargejpg3SM73.jpg

I need to do it?
Not really. Believe me or not, I don't care.
I'll upload the step-by-step animation and that's it.

ever seen dithering in color reduction?
I'll upload a step by step animation in the next few days.

I wanted to use it as a sprite for an animation, so AA is not an option.
I could use semi transparency but that would be faking :P

Yeah, I noticed that too.
The sword was made before and later attached to the character and I messed it up.

The whole picture has 69 colors and the tree alone has 26 colors+transparency.

Thanks ESA.
Maybe I'll include such scenes in my recent game project for cutscenes and maybe they'll be animated ;)

Agreed.
It doesn't matter which clothes the character wears. I have learned to listen to others when they criticize my work but after all I must like the look of it, not any other persons, because spriting is my hobby and not a job.

You're right, it took me about 3 damn nights to get this smooth look on the waves

Do they?
Well, my main character is a pilot and those brass goggles are typical for steampunk.

@Onyona: I'm glad that you like it. Spriting the leaves was like going through hell and took me a whole night.

@Solidus: Maybe I will make the whole cast from MGS 2. I don't have that much spare time but becoming big boss sounds veeeery interesting ;)

@Lux: Danke, danke ;)

@jalonso: Thanks for the advice. I'm spriting for some years now, but I'm still a beginner refering to pixel art because I concentrated on creating sprites for 2D games.

@kakikukeko: No, I didn't use any reference. The waterfall was created while I helped out a friend to create a waterfall tutorial. I just tried to find out which technique works best.

Skies of Arcadia is some kind of steampunk game, yeah, but I've never played it^^
The stance might look weird, but i tested the animations with the character template I made for my game and when he walks it doesn't look like a zombie^^

@lux: ja, theoretisch könnte man es im maker benutzen, hatte das auch zuerst geplant, aber damals war ich einfach noch nicht gut genug um die restliche umgebung zu pixeln^^

@philipp: it's definately pixel art. i use neither transparency nor brushes. in my opinion it does not depend on the color count if it is pixel art or not. i can guarantee you that i placed every pixel by myself (i used graphicsgale for this one)

yeah, it's 256 colors

Yeah, I was thinking about adding a bg to it, I thought about the tanker level but my spriting skills were too low when I created this sprite.

this one's looking great.
reminds me of my old spriting style^^
i think this one would work very well in an isometric adventure game. I don't know why, but somehow it reminds me of an adeventure game.

nah, I don't think it's pillow shaded. maybe it looks like pillow shading because of the very dark shadow on the right!? Or maybe the outline which is very similar to the base colors. I dunno, but it's one of my first sprites I made (about one year ago)
