Nom nom...... Eye-dango..... gross :b. Nicely rendered though :)

Is it though? Or is it exactly enough... to trigger my seizures :)

I love it!

Lol, my thoughts exactly :)

That's super cute :)

The right hand, screen left, tangents a bit with the exposed blouse. Amusing that in the reference the justacorps-like jacket thing does a weird swoop around the buttons to get out of the way of the hand.

Made me think of Space Boy, a Webtoon, because of the subtly varied facial traits and expressiveness, presumably, because your rendering style is quite unique.

I dig it :)

Oh! I didn't know. Thanks :)

Done. Not that it matters, but I had thought the earthy palette would clash against the gray background, and they'll never actually be displayed on gray....

He looks happy, and cute :), but also flat. i.ibb.co/RcMmQrQ/slime.png(my edit). I'm not arguing this is in any way an optimal result, but it looks more like how the light plays on a glob of jelly, and at the cost of one more color. The specular highlight color could also be dropped back to the regular highlight color if you prefer.

Nice! It reads as what it's supposed to be even from the icon, and that's half the battle.

As to tips, though I'm only starting out myself, try doing the exact same piece in a CGA/EGA palette. 32 colors is a bit massive for something this small, and the end result is a bit noisy at 1X1 scale. Dropping down to a super low color count can be a good starting point, even if you end up needing a few more colors in the final piece.

Check out the PixelJoint Image Specs tool yanrishatum.ru/pj/. It's really nice for finding colors you don't really need.

Nice! The refractive light on the orb is particularly well achieved.

Volume-preservation/stretch-squish is super key to squishy objects. You seem to be primarily squishing.

I really like this, in terms of color and image-structure, but the actual structure is amorphous. The maybe-seaweed should have more angular lighting, even if it is partially translucent.

There's a lot of good moody stuff going on here. I like the color choices, the structure, the actual rendering of the tree.

To Eishiya's point, I would recommend trying the same piece at a quarter the resolution, possibly even using this piece as direct reference. Pixel level control is a lot easier with fewer pixels :)

On a fine point, I would like to see some brighter yellow at the core of the fire, and that same yellow could be used for motes up in the smoke. Just half a dozen little sparks can really help with the look of a camp fire.

@Radiolarius: Thanks so much! Color has actually been my primary focus for the last couple of years. I feel like I've just turned a corner :). Plus, I hadn't seen your gallery before, and your work actually jibes with me, on top of being very good on its own merits.

Just the pixeljoint image spec tool :)  http://yanrishatum.ru/pj/

I dig your deeply purposeful response. Every perceived error is just one perceptual step away from art :b

If you happen to have the time, I would value your thoughts on my judo-bunny-girl piece https://pixeljoint.com/pixelart/150449.htm

Freaking wow! That is seriously tops!

That said :) The blackest-black looks a bit tooo black, on my monitor at least. The value jumps by 7, while its nearest-neighbor colors only jump 3. All of these being 13 and below, and steps at lower values having more perceptual impacts, you might be well served by lowering the value on what is presently #161819(second darkest), if you don't want to brighten the darkest shade. This is particularly eye catching in the little vaguely bean-shaped cluster just above the wolf's head(#070708 surrounded by #161819).

Nice! The 8X8 depends so much on the starting image. This one being relatively centered and symetrical the eyes become obvious :)
